My cd rom drive will not recognize any cds or dvds. When I put a disc into the drive it will tell me to insert a blank disc into the drive. I have tried over ten different discs (including the one that came with my computer) and none of them worked. I have tried cleaning it with canned air, a plain paper towel, and a plain Q tip. Nothing has worked. I also bought a lense cleaning disc, but my cd rom won't even recognize that either. I also tried uninstalling/reinstalling my cd rom drive, but that did nothing either. Here is some important information about my laptop and cd rom drive..... * I have a Gateway laptop. The model is M-6823 a. *I have an Optiarc DVD RW CD rom drive, and it is an AD-7563A ATA Device (I think that's the model number for the cd rom drive.) Thanks for everyones' help:)

What I mean by the cd rom drive not recognizing discs is I will insert a disc into the cd rom drive and the drive says that the the cd rom drive is empty. I guess that means it's not detecting the disc. I've even tried it with a brand new dvd and the cd rom drive didn't detect that there was a dvd in there. I had to go into the computer section, click on the E drive, and a message came up... Please insert a disc into drive E.

I've heard of similar problems and I have had one myself. Did you try to play a dvd? If that works but nothing else, you most likely will have to replace the drive.

What do you mean not recognized? not detecting the drive or not reading? if not recognized by windows you can check the driver for drives in the windows if not reading it is the lens problem..if the lens problem, the solution only is to replace the lens or to replace the whole drive

When I had my problem, no cd was recognized, music or data. But when I paced a dvd movie in there, and started up my PowerDVD, it would play just fine. I ended up replacing the drive. In fact, I got an upgrade because the first one was CDRW/DVD-ROM, and now its a DVD burner. 86 bucks including shipping.

The pc won't burn cd's seems like it doesn't recognize cds or dvds

Does the cd/dvd drive read cds? This is a good test to ensure that the drive is functional.

Sometimes, generic cd/dvd burners do not recognize certain types of blank discs. Try another type of
brand blank discs, it should work.

CD and DVD use different lasers. You appear to have a bad or out of adjustment laser. Replace the drive.

Dvd rom not reading cds/dvds

I had similar problem on a Toshiba Satellite A30 laptop, I simply had to reconnect DVD drive. It usually loosing it's connection with motherboard and drive is visible in My Computer but it doesn't recognize any discs. If reconnection does not solve your issue you may try to update your DVD firmware and if it won't help replace DVD drive. Good Luck!

Lite-on DVD R/W combo LH-20A1L BLO5 Blank discs not recognized

Have you checked device manager to see if you have a yellow checkmark on your DVD./CD drives? if ok, sounds to me like the maker of the LH-20A1l BLO5 either needs to fix your problem or replace it. The Nero 7 should enable it to work correctly.

My dvdrom drive wont let me access the drive

ITs a dvd rom drive. It will not burn blank dvds
in order to burn, it has to cd-r/cd-rw/dvd-r/dvd-rw. If a drive cannot write to a blank disc, it will eject it. Rom drives read only (Read Only Memory), Combo drives- burn cd's only read dvd's, and super drives both read and write to cds and dvds.
