you will find the crown has 2 positions when you pull it out. (you have to be gentle and feel the click)
One position does the time, the 2nd one the date.
On the date its quite common for it to work in one direction only (ie goes up) when the crown is rotated..

Hello,

First let's start with the battery replacement;

• Set the watch face down on a flat rubber surface. This will keep the watch firmly in place and will protect it from being scratched on a more hazardous surface.
• Use a pair of needle-nosed pliers to pull the points just far enough apart so that each point can be pushed into each of the two notches on the back of the watch.
• Keeping the pliers pushed into each notch, turn counterclockwise to begin removing the back of the watch. Once it has been loosened, finish removing it by hand.
• The battery will be the only part inside of the watch that is not directly connected. Make a mental note of the battery's position and then remove it.
• Insert the replacement battery into the same spot where the original battery was located.
• Use the needle-nosed pliers to screw on the back of the watch in the same fashion you did in Steps 2 and 3, except this time turn clockwise.

1. Measure the band around your wrist to determine how many links must be removed.
2. Identify the arrows on the underside of the watch band. These indicate what direction the pins should be pushed.
3. Place the pin pusher above the first pin of the band, where the band connects to the watch clasp. Make sure the pin pusher is the proper size for the pin in question. Tap the pin pusher lightly with the hammer to remove the pin. Very little force should be needed to remove the pin. If you meet with resistance, make sure the pin remover is lined up with the pin. Set the pin aside.
4. Move the pin pusher down the watch band to the amount of links needed to be removed. Tap the pin pusher with the hammer to remove the pin and the extra links.
5. Reattach the watch band to the claps by putting the band back in the clasp and tapping the pin back into place with the hammer.

the problem is the battery it has way to much power. usually alarm clock use alkaine battries or energiezer they are best made for things like alarm clocks
