Second hand movement

My TAG's second hand is only moving in one large sweeping motion every 4 seconds or so. The watch seems to still be keeping accurate time. Is this a battery thing or something more serious?

Your TAG is fitted with EOL (end of life) feature. This is the cause of that 4 seconds interval movement of seconds hand and thus indicating the time for battery replacement. The timekeeping is not affected by this- it is just warning to replace battery a.s.a.p.
Find your nearest watchmaker and ask for battery replacement.

The small seconds hand do not stop because it has nothing to do with chronometer. It is ordinary seconds counter and will move independent of chronometer.Click on my profile (escapement), then click on Tips and Tricks. There you will find link to Tag Heuer watch manuals. My Tag Heuer chronograph will not reset to zero.

Try the following, which I discovered by accident on my Tag Professional. Pull the crown out to the first position, and then you may find that successive pushes of the upper pushbutton will move one of the chrono hands by one division, and the lower pushbutton will move a different chrono hand. Similarly if you pull the crown out to the second position, the pushbuttons will control the other chrono hands. In this way you can set each of the chrono hands to their zero positions. Hope this works for you. Geoff

Second hand not sweeping but jumps at 5 secs intervals. Appears to be keeping accurate time.

When the second hand moves in short jumps rather than a smooth sweep or a second-by-second hop, it means that the battery is about to run out. Usually, with a week or two the watch will stop working altogether. You should go and have it changed as soon as possible.

Second hand skips

This is warning: it's time to change the battery. Your watch is fitted with EOL (end of life) feature and this is how the low battery power is displayed. However, the watch will keep running correctly for about two weeks.

Second hand sweeping five second increments

Yes, it is sign for time to replace the battery. Your watch is fitted with EOL (end of life) device. This device forces the integrated circuit board to move seconds hand in 2 - 5 seconds increments when the battery power level is less than necessary for smooth running of the watch movement. At the same time the timekeeping of the watch is not affected and it will still keep good time for about 2 weeks.

Second hand on my watch now goes in 5 second intervals

Check the instruction manual if you have one. Tag-Heuer watches move in 5 second intervals to let you know the battery needs replacing. A neat feature. Now you know that you have a real Tag!

Festina 16177 / 8- Tour de France 2005 - second hand not moving

The large sweep hand is not the second hand,it is the 1,100th sec hand on chrono. The second hand during time mode is the small dial at the bottom which should be going round

Rolex ad Daytona 1992 replica

The advice given here is accurate to a degree. When wound, a rolex daytona IS running. However, it is the running seconds hand in the small sub-dial that is actually running. In the earlier Daytonas, this sub-dial was at the 9 o'clock position on the dial, (pre-2001 series daytonas). The later daytonas, from 2001 on, use the seconds at 6 position for counting seconds. The main sweeping second hand on the watch dial will NOT start until activated by the pusher at the 2 position. That pusher needs to be unscrewed and then pushed to start the large sweeping second hand. This action, in turn, starts the remaining 2 sub-dials in motion, counting minutes and hours. To stop the chronograph function, you push the pusher @ the 2 position again, to stop the sub-dial hands from counting, and then push the pusher @ the 4 position to re-set the dials to their "straight up position". This stops the chrono's function, until it is needed again, BUT the main running seconds, (at either the 9 or 6 sub-dial position, depending on the year series of the daytona) will continue to run, thus keeping accurate time.  Hope this gives you a better idea of how the timekeeping of the chronograph function on a Daytona works. So, to start your seconds running you need to start the chrono function by pressing the pusher at the 2 position. That will allow you to see the large sweeping second hand I think you're referring to here. Hope this has helped.
