Recently our projection bulb was replaced. Shortly thereafter, we began seeing specs on our screen????? Does one have anything to do with the other????
No the specs or white dots are caused by the DLP chip. eventually the dots will fill the entire screen . replacing the DLP chip usually solves that issue.

Seems a lightning strike took out my bulb
eventhough i have a surge protector.
after replacing the bulb perhaps 1 hour later a shadow began to appear at the top of the screen and progressed slowly down until only the edges are visible.

It is not your Picture Tubes that are bad. You have Etheline Glycol in the tubes for cooling just like your car's anti-freeze. The fluid becomes contaminated after years and needs replaced. I do not recommend you attempt this. The average repair should be in the neighbor hood of $250.00 to replace.

Problem is you convergence ICs, you need to replace Both of them STKs big black ICs will have part number on them .Mats has ICs 1-800-628-1118

well to be honest with you it could be one of two things
ONE: It could be the lamp depending on how old it is this lamps are good for a average time of 2-4 years so that could be it depending how old it is most likely the lamp is the problem 80%
TWO: It could be the ballast board it could be wearing out and it is to weak to turn on the lamp this problem usually happens with new lamps 20%
