That means it is stuck on progressive scan.  If your tv is not able to handle progressive scan, you need to change it back or reset the player.
The DVD player may be set to Progressive Scan Mode. You will need to change it to Video Mode by using the remote control. Point the remote control directly at the DVD player, and then press the PSCAN button 2-3 times. If you are still encountering problems with the DVD player, reset the unit back to the default setting.

To Reset,
Make sure you do not have a disk in the tray. Using the DVD player remote control: 1) Press the “Setup” button. 2) On the “Down” arrow, press it three times. 3) On the “Right’ arrow, press it once. 4) On the “Down” arrow, press it three times. 5) On the “Right” arrow, press it once, then press “Enter”. 6) Press the Setup button. *The default setting will take affect as soon as you press the setup button (step 6).
Hope it helps..please rate!

We see a yellow anouncement that says PSCAN and it splits the image

Hello
PSCAN; means Progressive Scan. To get the splitted picture together you have to change the scan system of your tV to progressive scan. Now it runs on Interlace Scan. If your TV has Progressive Scan function; refer to its user manual; set it to progressive scan. An other way is to change the scan system with DVD. Try either. OK.

Splitting image

Are you using the epson scan software or something else? If you are using epsons software, it might be that the picture has verticl lines that the software is mistaking for different frames on your negative. Switch the software to professional mode. I go another step and use Vuescan, it's a better application in my opinion.

Split screen

It appears that it has something to do with Progressive Scan been turned on. Progressive Scan is a feature built in your dvd player, wich by using it, it would give you a better picture//resolution on your tv, you need to use Component or HDMI cables to hook up the dvd to your tv if you want this settings, but if you are using composite RCA cables (Red,White & Yellow) and the Progressive funtion is turned on by accident, it may give you a split screen, black & white, or no picture problems. Also if you are using Component (Blue, Green & Red) cables, if one of them is unplug, the picture can be out of colors, or no picture. Check this things, if not, write back with more details about your set up.

Split screen picture

Your DVD player is set to the 480p (progressive) scan mode. Place it back to the 480i (interlaced) mode and it should work normal.

Split screen from DVD player, cable is fine no problem

It is not clear where you say input is from cable, do you mean the Scart input to your Sony TV? Do not use Progressive scan(p), as this is not interlaced. The normal TV requires an interlaced(i) picture of 50 half frames per second giving 25 complete pictures per second to reduce flicker. Some TVs and projectors and all monitors accept Progressive scan.
