66 Mustang- 289 V8- has an intermittent surge and rattling noise

The car has sat for almost 2 years, relatively low miles on a rebuilt 289 about 3 years back. It's been surging on and off for the last couple weeks, just replaced the fuel pump but it didn't fix that problem. Also have a rattling noise on initial accelerations and if I really get on the gas, but it's an occasional problem also, what should I do?

Sounds like crappy gas. The 289 may not like pump no-lead and the rattling sound you are hearing may be pinging / knocking.

2005 Cadillac STS V8 - P0420/P0300/P0174

There are two easy tests for the catalytic converters. One, use a infrared pyrometer and measure the temperature of both catalytic converters and compair the readings. There should not be much difference between the two if both are flowing correctly. Another easy test is to drill a 1/4" hole before each cat and check for excessive back pressure.

throw out bearing.Yes with only 41,000 miles on it it can still go out.But it sounds like its just starting. It could have sat at the dealership for 6mo- a year before anyone drove it making dry spots on the bearings.

No if the oil light has flickered you have oil pressure loss some time just belive the sensor do help us out. lifter do not cause oil pressure loss pressure is built in the rotation of the crankshaft. The knock under the plenum will point you to that cylinder that is affected, (main bearing) as for a 1995 the injectors can only cause a misfire but no knocking noise, will they honor the warranty

How do I identify the make of my 2-barrel carb -

The OEM carb on this model was Motorcraft, and you can get the rebuild kit from Ford or you can look up the model number either in Chilton's manual for that car, or maybe find another (kinda hard nowadays) carb in a junkyard and maybe it still has the tag. You can also research the specs for that motor on a web page of Ford or 2nd party auto parts dealers. I'd bet most mechanics over 40 years old could start you off in the right direction, too.
