Leeson 2hp motor no plate rewire from 120v to 240v

Leeson motor 120V to 240V no tag Hello..I have a Leeson motor with Auto reset overload protection and Start Cap/Run Cap ( 2) and I need to rewire to 240V BUT..I am not sure how it is wired now or if it is possable..THE plate is missing..No schematic anywhere..What I do have inside the motor wire connection box are 4 wires labeled P1, P2 and T4 , T8..All inside wires are Black... At this time P1 runs to a large brown and a small purple wire..P2 runs to a small purple..T4 and T8 are together and run to a large blue wire.If there are any other wires they are not visible in the wire connector box...When I plug in the Lg Blue and Lg Brown the motor runs and sounds just fine on 120V.. The 2 small wires, Purple and Black run to a connector/plug and seem to do nothing..I am trying to install the motor on my Jet 14" band saw that has cut less than 200' of Cedar and died..All tools in my shop are 220V and all of my extension cords are 220V so I want to keep it all the same..ANY help will be greatly appreciated..I have tried to find anything on Leeson web site but no way..The only #'s on the motor are (__)16440 03 ( the (__)= not sure) ,,and also A6K34.. The capacitors are Motor Start Cap is 250VAC and the Motor Run Cap is a 12.5 UF 370VAC...THANK YOU for your time and effort..John

I have a kobalt 60 gallon 3.7hp air compressor, I was using a dryer plug prevousily but I know longer have access to one, the motor says 208-240v is there a way to turn this into 110 or should I just get...


Ya you'll need another motor or a new 240v line. If it were a voltage switchable motor it would say so on the tag. I have an air compressor with a switchable motor and it says 120V/240V on the tag, theres a wire to remove inside the pressure switch to change the voltage.

I have a coleman powermate maxa 5000 er Generator. Model # PM0525202. The powercord plug came loose and burnt the plug and the receptical(240). I replaced the plug and receptical and I am not getting...


If this is the model I am thinking of, there are 3 outlets. One 240V (L1, L2, Neutral and Earth ground. Some models use a 3 terminal receptacle that combines Neutral and earth.), one 120V receptacle (L1, Neut, earth) and another 120V receptacle (L2, Neut, earth).

If you verified fuse and circuit breakers are good, turn on the generator and verify you get 120V on each of the two outlets. Measuring between the narrow blades of the two 120V outlets should be 240V.
***Shut off the generator.
With a test light or ohmmeter, check continuity from the earth terminal of 120V outlets to 240V outlet. Likewise for neutral (wider blade on 120V outlet). Lastly, check continuity from Narrow blade of each outlet to the 240V outlet.

I suspect that you miswired neutral and earth. On a 4 wire PLUG, it is customary to connect earth and neutral.

Is your apartment wired with a 240V outlet? Ask your landlord. A regular outlet is 120V. Electric dryers use 240V, thus where you are plugging the dryer into has to be a 240V outlet.

How to wire a intermatic timer T104 240 v to a 120v?


T104 is 240volt timer.
Timer has terminals A 1 2 3 4
T-104 clock motor must receive 240Volts to operate.
Clock motor wires are white-colored and can be seen connected to terminals 1 and 3.

There are two work-arounds for using T104 for 120V.

1) Diagram 1 showing how to change wiring:

Move 240V clock motor wires to terminal 1 and A.
Connect 240V Hot leads to terminals 1 and A. This will power the 240V clock motor
Hot wire going to 120V load connects to terminal 2. This wire will be turned on each time timer turns on, and 120Volts will power the 120V load.
To complete 120V circuit, neutral wire that comes from neutral busbar in breaker box connects to 120V load.

To control additional 120Volt circuit, run jumper wire from terminal 1 to terminal 3.
Connect Hot to second load to terminal 4.

2) Second method is to change T104 timer into T103 timer:

The T104p3 timer is getting power but the clock won't turn and the manual switch also doesn't work. we had a power outage, and the timer has not worked since then.


If I understand correctly, your T104 240Volt Intermatic timer worked fine before.
Now the clock will not rotate.
The manual switch doesn't operate the load.

You checked for electricity.
But did you check for 240 Volts across terminals 1 and 3?
It sounds like the circuit breaker is tripped off on one leg so circuit has 120V and tests positive for power, but not 240V.
Reset breaker all the way over and then click breaker back.

Back to the timer.
If you test electricity at terminal 1 to ground and it reads 120V, that means timer is receiving power from one leg of the 240 circuit.
If you test terminal 3 to ground and it reads 120V, that means same as above.
But unless you test for 240V across terminals 1 and 3, the tests above mean nothing.

Let's understand 240V circuit.
You know all single-phase household circuits require two wires to complete the circuit.
Same is true for 120V and 240V circuits >> each needs two wires to complete the circuit.
Inside the main breaker box are 3 busbars.
There are 2 hot busbars and 1 neutral busbar.
120V circuit is complete with 1 hot wire from either hot busbar and 1 neutral from neutral busbar
240V circuit is complete with 1 hot wire from one hot busbar and 1 hot wire from other hot busbar.

The 240V circuit breaker snaps down over both hot busbars, and then 2 wires come out of that breaker and go to 240V appliance, or to T104 timer terminals 1 and 3.

If circuit breaker is not delivering on both those hot wires, then all along the way you can test for electricity and test will show 120V but not 240V.
So it appears as though circuit has electricity, but circuit will not operate until both hot wires are available to complete the circuit.

That's why you test for 240Volt across terminals 1 and 3
And also test for 240Volt across both wires at circuit breaker.

Going back to timer.
Unless there was lightning strike that fried insides of timer, but somehow left everything else untouched, the manual override should work if circuit has 240V, and Load (lights, motor, fan) is operable.

A simple test is to move circuit breaker wires to another 240Volt breaker and see if timer works again.
If breaker will not reset, you will have to replace 240 circuit breaker, or add a subpanel if your busbars are burned and broken.

No hot or warm water what is the voltage reading susposed to be on the heating elements? I have 122 volts on each terminal on both elements but no action, what am i doing wrong?


If water is totally cold, then upper element is not getting 240V. Since element tested for 120V, then that says upper element is burned out, upper thermostat is bad, or circuit breaker is bad.

Testing elements for voltage can be misleading.
If water heater has 2 elements, then tank is 240Volts.
240V water heaters have 120V on each element at all times.
So elements have hot 120V power, but they are not turned on until the circuit is complete with 240V.

240V is made from two 120V Hot wires from breaker box.
Each 120V line from breaker is called a 'leg.'
So 240V circuit has two legs, and both legs need to be turned on to complete 240V circuit.

Water heater thermostats turn off only one leg.
The other leg is Hot all the time.
So when you test screws on an element, for example test between a screw and any bare metal part of tank, then the screw will always show 120V.
That is just one leg of the 240V circuit.
But the 240V circuit is not turned On until both legs are connected.
Every residential circuit needs two wires to complete the circuit, and in the case of 240V, those two wires are both 120V.

When the thermostat turns on, it turns on the second leg to the element and that completes the 240V circuit.

How do I wire an intermatic t-103 timer switch


The T-103 has a 120Volt clock motor

From there, the wiring can go two directions depending on your Load voltage (load is the fan, light or motor that timer turns on-off)

When wiring the T-103, steps 1-2-3 are true for 120V or 240V installation:
1) A white Neutral wire is always connected to terminal A (Neutral wire connects to Neutral busbar in breaker box)
2) A black Hot wire is always connected to terminal 1 >> this hot wire can come from 120V or 240V breaker
3) Black wire going to Load (fan, light, motor) is always connected to terminal 2
The following step is true for 120V Load
4) if Load is 120V, then white wire from Load connects to terminal A
The following steps are true for 240V Load
5) Only the neutral wire connects to terminal A as described in (1
6) The second Black hot from breaker box (240V has 2 hot wires) connects to terminal 3
7) The second White going to Load connects to terminal 4

My intermatic model T104 was not activating. I bought a new one yesterday but sill not activating. Howcan I prove the unti when it has two white cable only. Please advise asap. Thanks


T104 is 240V timer with 240V clock motor.
-This timer will not work for 120V circuits.
-Test your two wires for 240V.
-If your load (lights, motor etc) is 120V then you need the T101 timer.

Confusion about cables
When you say 2 white cables, does each cable have a black and white line?
If you have two cables with black and white lines, then one comes from breaker box, and the other goes to load ( water heater, motor, lights etc.)
