I'm trying to hook up my new camcorder (Sony DCR SR47) to playback on my old TV. The TV is a Philips Magnovox TS2774c101 and I no longer have the manual for it. I have red, yellow, white input plugs on the back of the TV, if I use them for the corresponding cables from my camcorder, nothing shows on the TV.
I have the TV set to channel 4 for normal viewing, and set it to channel 3 if I want to play a DVD or VCR tape. The Phillips VCR/DVD player is hooked up to the 'output' plugs on the back of the TV (yellow, red, white) and work fine. The Philips DVD/VCR player has the corresponding red, yellow, white plugs in the input side on the back of the DVD/VCR player and the channel selecter for the DVD/VCR is set to channel 3.
Can you assist with the hookup of the camcorder to playback on my TV?

It would help you to fix the issue.
Thanks for using Fixya.
It can be possible that the wires are not propers as the connections mentioned by all the other experts are very much proper and the picture should definately come up.check out with another set of wires ,which will be easily available at
www.radioshack.com
also you will receive the instruction book let to connect the wires in the camera and the tv.follow them and it should work.
Please try to change the format of the video on the camcorder to NTSC or
PAL on the settings mode in the cam and then try to check if the video plays on the tv...
Good luck...
You should have an audio/video cable that came with camcorder. If it did not come with the camcorder, make sure it is the right one for your camcorder or it will not work. Then plug the red, white, and yellow cords into the back of the tv and turn it on. Then turn the camcorder on and make sure you can see something on the camcorder screen. Using your remote, scroll down to channel 4 and 3 and see if it still does not work. If it does not, keep scrolling down and you should see a channel named input2 and another one named input1. It should show up on one of those channels. If it does not, you should have an option on your remote that says game or video input. Press that, and one of them should work.
You should be able to use your remote, click on the menu and change your video source.
Connect your leads, play the camcorder tape the switch your video input until you see your picture.
I had the same problem until I read my manual too.
Good luck and let me know.
I will also post a manual for you.
Regards.

Ok, on the remote for the tv, hit a button called tv/video or video input or video source. That should change the channel to av1 or av2. to my knowledge, this can only be done on a remote, not by pressing the cannel up or down on either the tv or remote.
Let's keep this simple. you are coming out of the camera with a cable that has 3 plugs
white - left audio
red - right audio
yellow - video signal
Plug those into the tv video input jacks (each corresponding colors) either video 1 or 2. start playback on the camera and get your tv remote. set it to video 1 or 2 whichever you plugged your camera into. You will be watching your video.
are you hooking your video camera up to your vcr video inputs or your tv video inputs? This is very important for us to know.
Look at the following diagram. I made this for you. Thought this might be easier.
Set your TV like you always do to watch a movie from tape on the VCR. Now get your VCR remote and change the input mode on your VCR to LINE Input . Push play on your video camera and you should see the picture on your TV.

Hi, I've been doing this a long time and Welcomejee is exactly right. Follow his instructions and you should have no problems.
Hi, Your tv is dependent on the channel select feature of the dvr. Welcomejee told you exactly right. use the outputs from the camera to the inputs on the dvr. If you have only one set of inputs on the dvr that are currently plugged into the tv, you will need to use those as they are only used when recording from the tv.

Remove any vcr, satellite or anything hooked to the tv.
connect the red, white yellow wire to the tv and the other end to the camera.
set the camera to playback mode, play then pause it during the video annd leave it on pause.
now using your remote control, go to channel 0
or press AV on your remote
press av again if doesn't work
last thing you can do is go from channel 10 to 9, 8, 7 ect..until your frozen frame appears on tv
Yellow – Video Out
· Black – Sound Out (Mono)
· White – Sound Out (Left)
· Red – Sound Out (Right)
If your cable has only a yellow connector, your camera can only play back images and video (depending on the model) without sound. A cable with one yellow and one black connector lets you play back images and video with mono sound. A cable with yellow, white and red connectors lets you play back still images and video with stereo sound. To connect your camera to your television, connect the appropriate end of the cable into your camera's output port and the RCA plug(s) to your television as follows :

Use VCR inputs to see camcorder picture. plug camcorder output yellow-red-white leads in VCR input and select line-1 or 2 in VCR. Now power up your TV and set channel to view VCR picture, now playback camcorder and watch its picture via VCR.
Need further help, please let me know and write comments.
You need to press the tv/vcr button on the vcr remote. the button might also be labeled input.
hope this helped
please rate well

You need to plug to input socket on the Tv , not output.
You use the output plugs at the back of the TV to record on camcorder what is being watched on the TV.
To playback from camcorder onto tv you need to use the input on TV, as the TV will get camcorder signal as input and display it.
Move the video cable to the input plug at the back of the TV, not output.
Do that with TV and camcorder off, then restart both the devices.
After restarting look for external input channel (au ) using TV remote.

You hook the corresponding color cables from the camcorder to the TV same clor inputs, you also will need to set the tv to video input not on any single channel like 3 or 4

What do you mean set the TV to video input?
What is meant by setting the TV to video out?put
Still no playback on the TV. TV is set to channel 58, camcorder plugs are plugged into back of TV red to red, white to white etc.
VCR/TV button pressed on the Philips VCR remote, and tv screen goes a little fuzzy. VCR player shows power on, with the vcr/tv light on the player lit, and the output select is set to video not dvd.
Please explain what is meant by 'select line 1-2 in VCR. I also tried unpluging my cable line to the back of the TV and my vcr/dvd player and just plugging the camcorder into the correct imput plugs. Still no picture on TV set.
After all of the suggestions, still no picture on the TV set from the camcorder.
Thank you. Finally it worked. The channel solution was SAT. The last/or first channel available. Thank you.
