Could be fuel pump is going out. Its getting hot not working properly and when it cools down it works right again for a short period. Ive seen this happen several times.
FUEL DRIVER MODULE MOUNTED ON PUMP WILL CAUSE HARD TO NO START HOT
SMALL BLACK BOX MOUNTED ON DRIVER SIDE OF FUEL PUMP
TRY COOLING IT OFF WITH WATER NEXT TIME TO SEE IF TRUCK STARTS FASTER
you didn't say if it was hot on the temp gauge? no matter, it sounds like you have a stuck t-stat. when the engine is cold, a mechanical valve keeps the water from coming out of the engine block until warmed up, then opens and lts the cooler water in. this cools down the engine and the colder temp of the water shuts the valve again. this happens constantly while the engine runs, and if your t-stat is stuck, the engine heats up the water in the block, but with nowhere to go, simply overheats the motor. a good repair book will locate the thermostat housing for you and should you the repair procedure. (i assume you have checked the water in the rad. low water will give you same symptoms). good luck.
sounds like coil problem, coils will start cold then get hot and stop. when coil cools will crank up and run till it gets hot, try to replace the ignition coil, dont think it would be a crank sensor, try a coil, thanks robert b.
check your solenoid on your starter, usually when it get hot it fail until it cool off. a sign of starter going bad if you have to wait til the starter cool off before you can restart the car again. also check contact to the starter. if you having problems getting the starter to work you can get a small hammer and lightly tap the starter, 90% of the time it will kick over.
