Computer displays black screen with blinking cursor

it appears there is a high level of data corruption on your computer's hard drive sadly you must reinstall the windows OS however i do recommend using Ubuntu to access your files while in live cd mode by clicking try ubuntu or use mini-XP (a mini version of windows xp) and use an external drive or mega.nz (mega.nz for free can store your files up to fiffty gigabytes)

Sounds like your display may be going. Opening and closing may cause that connection to wear out on some laptops.

you will need the restore cdrom's to fix this issue. sounds like you the wrong upates! you should only updates that come from the sony web site for your particular sony item.

try to open bios menu n select first boot device internal hdd n save the setting n restart.

Hi if you are getting nothing at all from the lcd screen (black screen with no cursor or icons) there are two possible causes 1st is the LCD itself it starting to worn out or sometime it is just the simple wire connecting the LCD to the mainboard to get the display that needs to be replaced.
If your getting a black screen with blinking cursor and you can still see the hp logo at startup you just need to update the video card driver of your laptop.
Have the HP check first the hardware side of your system so that they can replace the broken parts. thanks

Sounds like a software error. When the screen has been blaxk for a minute or two try hitting control+alt+del and use the task manager to start the process explorer.exe if so then there is a registry or windows error and needs to be repaired.

What happens it you press F8 or F12 when you turn on the computer do you get any different screen options.

Also to clarify is the screen staying on the Dell logo or is it going to a black screen.

Another thing to check does the computer still seen like it is booting up properly.

Hi all you need to do is insert the windows CD and whilst booting up it will give you an option to recover windows files only if the cd recognizes a damaged OS, If not then you will have to go through the console which is a more technical method.

Try starting in SAFE mode by pressing F8 when the logo disappears. If u can get in safe mode goto DEVICE MANAGER and remove the display adapter and then restart the computer.
