The screens goes white on start-up and it does not work from an external monitor

If there is pixlation then it typically should not be an inverter issue, this kinda points to the video card if the problem happens before windows. Also does movement of the screen cause any of these issues?

Does the same thing happen with an external monitor?

I actually did have a problem that was similar the screen would lighten up after a min or so and moving the screen fixed it. The actual cause of the problem was a loose chip on the circuit board of the LCD, i re soldered it to fix it, could also be a bad LCD cable.

To switch to an external monitor, after it is connected on the laptop hold down the FN key and then it will be either F5/F6 or F7 it should have a picture of a little screen on it.

This problem is related to defective LCD output. You can connect your Laptop to external LCD and check. IF the same problem occures then the on-board LCD is bad. IF not then the LCD itself is bad.
