SOURCE: Some wii & gamecube disc will play .others
Usually when this happens there is a problem with the disk itself not the console. First look at it in the light and see if its dirty or scratched up. If it is indeed dirty then use a lint free cloth. Such as a microfiber, or glasses cloth, Wipe in consistent stroke from the center to the outside in straight lines. Work your way around the disk. You may also dampen part of the rag and use it first then use the other part to dry it. Then try it again. I hope this helps, please rate this. Thank You

SOURCE: Philips DVD 724 doesn't read
Does the disc have a lot of scratches on the surface? Even the smallest scratch can make your disc unaccessable. Try a clean disc and see if the problem repeats itself. If it does, then the problem might be that the laser in your DVD is dirty, and needs to be cleaned. This can be done with a cd drive cleaner kit, which should be available at just about any electronics/gaming store.
Otherwise it might need a bit of a checkup from your local tech repair shop.
Hope that helps.

SOURCE: We dropped our WII down
Well it's possible that you just plain out broke your disk drive?
You could try softmodding your wii to play games off a hard drive or sd card. but it is a somewhat difficult process and will take some time.
otherwise you could probably get it repaired by nintendo.
good luck
In most cases when the CD does not play it is possible that the optical head is a suspect. Sometimes it might pick up ordinary audio CD but will not play other formats. This indicates that the optical head is weak and so there is no detection or scanning of the CD . If the optical is working the tracks will be read immediately but with no scanning the laser head can be defective.
Sometimes certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it will not be read and so will reject. Hence it is ideal to manually clean the laser head eye using a cleaning swap /cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye.
If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so the board seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but the possibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault.
If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of a malfunction of the main processor board
