Microwave turns itself off after a couple of seconds

Our microwave, model MBY, turns itself off after a couple of seconds---doesn't matter what power setting it's on. The microwave is 5 years old.

Any ideas? power turns off when you press start. just over 1 year old, imagine that out of warranty.

Q - My microwave seems to shut off every once in a while, what might be wrong?
A - Make sure you hear the fan is still operating in your microwave. Next is to make sure the air intake grill on your microwave is not plugged up with air borne dust and dirt.
Q - The fan in my microwave oven is not running will this hurt my microwave?
A - YES, the fan cools the magnetron and electronics, take the microwave in for service, most fans are not too expensive to replace.
Q - My microwave blows the fuse inside itself as soon as I push the start button.
A - Usually a shorted high voltage capacitor...see components section.

Glass inside does not rotate now

The problem is typically the turntable motor, it is accessible by first disconnecting the power then removing the lower panel that houses the filters and lights. You will see a small device with 2 wires that looks similar to this
b162a2f.jpg The next most common thing to fail would be the coupling that attaches to this motor and sits inside the oven, you can take the glass tray out and lift the coupling, check for cracks or breaks, try running the microwave for a few seconds without the table and see if the coupling turns with the weight of the table on it. This may indicate a stripped coupling.

The 3rd component and most expensive to fail is the control itself, there is either a relay or diode on the control that sends a signal to the motor to turn. You should verify that you have power to the motor before replacing it.

I hope this helps

Kenmore 721 microwave fan turns on by itself

I have the exact same problem with my Kenmore Microwave model 721 that we bought in October of 2005. The Fan will just randomly turn itself on even when we are not cooking. It has been doing this for the last few months and is starting to become more frequent. There is no way to turn it off except to unplug it for several hours.
Was there a recall for this defect ?

Door not latching

One of my friend who can fix almost anything is coming once a year to fix all that is broken and not working. It has become a yearly routine. This works out way more cheaper than trying to fix all these "wonderful" appliances myself!

Micrwave does not heat, and turns off by itself before time

Unplug the Microwave and remove the outer cabinet. Inside the cabinet will be a thermal insulated fuse, looks like the old buss fuses for early model cars but white. Replace that with the correct fuse which can be found at Lowes or Home depot and see if that solves the problem. Be careful not to touch any capacitors if they are in there.

Thermador MBY microwave

The problem is the push-on connector on the UPPER door-latch switch; if the white plastic around this connector is brown (burning), the connection is going bad.

Cut the three white wires back about 1 inch and strip; obtain a new push-on and solder the three white wires into it-- a crimp is NOT sufficient for three wires into this little connector (defective design). Also clean the two blade on the switch before reconnecting as the heat has likely left a burnt coating.
