I would like to know if i'm losing sound quality becoz i have 4 ohm surround speakers but my receiver is rated at 8 ohm per channel.
Please check with the manual of your receiver whether it is capable of running 4 ohm speakers.
if yes, then please go ahead, you will not loose any Sound quality. Sound quality will depend a lot on the performace of the speaker as well as the frequency range it can deliver.
If no, please do not connect. Though, you might be able to play and listen to the music, but it will overload your receiver!!
If you are not sure, please let me know the brand and model of your receiver and I can check for you.

Thanks,
Sony STRDG 720 is rated 105Wx 7 at 8ohms. If you see the back of your receiver, you will note that Sony has specifically written near the speaker tereminals: Speaker Impedence = Use 8 to 16 Ohms.
It is recommended that you pick up a pair of 8ohm speakers for your surrounds to connect with this receiver. Though, of course you will be able to run the 4 ohm speakers that you have but it might spoil you receiver in the long run.
Just for you to understand my logic for my recommendation is that a 4 ohm speaker places a heavier load on the amp. The advantage being, you get more power, the drawback, the amp runs hotter, and it needs to have enough reserve and current capacity to handle a 4 ohm load without clipping or overheating.
Thats the reason most car speakers are 4 ohm, so that you can get higher power levels out of amps driven by a 12 volt electrical system, without having to use an inverter to boost the voltage.
An 8 ohm speaker requires twice the voltage to get the same amount of current through the coil as a 4 ohm speaker. While this isn't really an issue with home equipment, which can provide a higher voltage so accordingly amp/reciever are built that way.
Thanks and enjoy connecting.
