Screen Out of Focus with Wavy Lines - Perfect Focus Will Not Corr

The picture is out of wack. It appears that there are two colors that are projecting wavy lines and the Perfect Focus will not correct the problem. This happened all of a sudden. One day the picture was fine and the next day when we turned the TV on, the two of the colors appear wavy and the overall picture is out of focus. What could possibly cause this probelm? Where would I buy replacement parts to fix it? Is there a shop manual available that defines the process to correct the focus of the picture? Would the cost to buy replacement parts cost more than buying a new 42 inch TV?

Alot of rear projection t.v.'s have a convergence option in the menu on the t.v. There you can set the try to set the colors back how their supposed to. Mine has a cross in the middle of the screen and you just have to try to get all 3 colors to line up. Unfortunately, the actual lens inside mine has to be aligned so it doesnt work. Just something to try though, hope it helps.

Until the point where you can see the retrace line disappears, just before cutoff.
2. Turn the red screen control on the Focus Block until retrace lines appear and gradually turn it back
Until the point where you can see the retrace line disappears, just before cutoff.
3. Turn the blue screen control on the Focus Block until retrace lines appear and gradually turn it back
until the point where you can see the retrace line disappears, just before cutoff.
4. If the screen still appears too bright after proper G-2 adjustment, you need to adjust the sub-bright adjustment in the service menu
control down until screen cut-off. (Service data Range is usually 21 to 25 in the Service menu, for Sony sets you first go to category "MCP2", & then adjustment item 01( "SBRT")= subright.
For electrical the focus, put on the screen a clear picture of your choice thru an input of the TV set from a DVD, then pause the playback of the DVD Look into each color and rock that color focus control back and forth (turn the control one way then the other way slowing down as the picture goes into the best focus. till the picture looks sharp do each color till they all look in focus. NOTE: it is best to look into each color tube to achieve the best electrical focus. For optical focus please follow the manual lens adjustment in the sets service manual

Wavy lines appear across the screen

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Kines on Screen and Fading

Open up the front of the set by removing the speaker screen and the black piece of particle board. on the bottom right you will see 4 knobs. Turn those knobs slowly till the arcs go away. The 3 knobs on the bottom are for color. the 3 on top are for the focus.

Picture problems

OK to help assist everyone having the BLUE HUE and CURVED LINES Issue on their Rear Projection HDTV no matter their model. Here are the steps to take. The first thing to check is the FOCUS BLOCK or G2 Focus Transformer or CRX F-Pack. I have replaced mine, however it didn't resolve the issue. I am onto the next item the CRT Board for Blue (Which is the board under one of the three color lamps inside your tv) Please see photo below (if photo is not large enough below go to link to review notes as well) If the CRT Board is not it, then the next step will be the Signal Board which is a larger board in the back. In a week I will have a picture of both.

INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Remove the outside cover
  2. Remove the wood plank/panel
  3. In the front is the G2 Focus Block/Transformer, while set is on turn the top 3 knobs till the screen goes black/dark grey.
  4. adjusting the colors till you receive the desired or normal color/picture.
  5. Once you have received the proper color/picture tap the side of the Focus Block.
  6. IF The colors go out of wack again and the blue comes back strong then this "CAN BE" the Focus Block.

Replace the G2 Focus Block aka Focus Transformer, if Hitachi it's called a CRX F-Pack. This item will cost about $50. Not expensive. You will likely need a soldiering iron. DO TURN OFF & UNPLUG THE TV WHEN INSERTING ANY METAL OBJECTS INTO THE TV!!

FOLLOW THE PHOTOS/DIAGRAM in link below for assistance in the above instructions. I will post my next process since it was not my Focus Block that was an issue.
