Hitachi 46F500, picture bigger than screen

I just got this TV from a friend and the picture from the cable shows bigger than the screen. When I play a DVD, the picture is great, but hooked up to my basic cable (no box, just wall cable connection) the images seem to be magnified. Make sense??? Please help, thanks!

I just received an expert answer to this question, but I am still not able to fix the problem. The answer given was to disable the extra zoom feature to get normal picture. This makes sense, but I looked into the menu and wasn't able to find this option. How do I disable this feature??? BTW, I am using a universal remote, my friend doesn't have the original.
    Thanks!!!!

I also will need to know the model of your cable box or your carrier. In almost all cases you will want to change the "aspect ratio" on the cable box. This can be found in the menu/settings on your cable box. If you still need assistance let me know. Also please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thank you,
Lee

I called Hitachi and the solution is in your cable remote not your tv remote. Your tv has a aspect menu as does your cable remote. Based on your cable provider you should have a settings or menu button to change the zoom or aspect of your screen.
---------------- DISPLAY FEATURES -------  Aspect Ratio----16:9. ----Horizontal Resolution -----1280 Lines--------- 3:2 Pulldown Compensation-------Yes
Widescreen Modes ------Zoom 16:9, Conventional 4:3, Zoom, 16:9, Expand

Without the original remote .and if there is no video or view mode set up while in the menu system that will have to be manually accessed at the tv. then you will have to contact Hitachi and purchase a new remote.

Hitachi 46F500 TV has red and blurry picture.. what to do?

If this problem has been gradually getting worse, it is most likely to your picture tubes getting weak, and it is time to replace the set I'm afraid.
If the red is smearing off to the side of reddish objects in the picture it is most definately the tubes.

If you did manual conv. You have to redo it when you replace the bad parts. Them being conv. ic's replace them and check 1/4 watt resistors that are low value right beneath amps. Careful not to solder any foil pads together or you will have major problems. Very common for do-it-yourselfers. Good luck, Russmann.
