Go to Control panel
Click on: Hardware and Sound
Click on: Devices and Printer
Click on your printer
Click on Adjust printing preferences
Then go to the Maintenance Tab at the top (should be last tab)
Then click Print a test page
You can also Align Ink cartridges from here and clean the Ink Cartridges

If that does not work then update the drivers:

Go to Start
Type in box Device Manager
Click on Device Manager in list
Wait till list populates.
Click on Imaging devices
Right click on the printer
Update the drivers by searching online

SOURCE: Light or Faded Areas in Solid Color Prints

If the issue is occuring in the same place on all prints, try the imaging drum (can't remember if this printer even uses one) or the transfer belt/roller (not sure which it uses). If you phone Dell support, they should run you through troubleshooting and send you either of those parts free of charge if you are under warranty. If not, buy them anyways; they don't degrade over time (if kept in the dark) and can be saved for when the currently installed one runs out if you don't need it to fix this issue.

SOURCE: Dell 3100cn Smudges on all color except black

This is actually a drum issue, although changing drums doesn't always fix it. The problem is the at the tolerances between the transfer belt and the top cover of the drum is too close so the belt can scrape on the ribs inside the cover, getting a toner buildup and causing streaks in the color. Notice it is not streaking the black; this is because the black is laid on the belt last and the belt does not go around again.

This is such a flaky problem because a perfectly happy unit can suddenly start streaking because of temperature changes or, I suspect, even something as simple as moving the printer can cause things to move enough to cause the issue. A good article I have found for fixing it is at http://www.ahfx.net/weblog.php?article=133. Dell forums also discuss this issue -- it's a known issue and I think Dell should fix it.

SOURCE: The color red will not print on My Dell A940 printer.

Try find another printer(same model- says printer B)...take printer head from printer B to your printer(says printer A),use your ink cartridge and test your printing....if all color seen on paper, then the problem is your printer head, to make sure is it true or not, use printer head from printer A into printer B.see the result...

Dell 3100cn printer prints individual colors fine. When printing full color picture the paper wraps around the fuser. Tried new fuser - same problem. Any suggestions?

Good old fuser wrap, what a pain. What type of paper are you printing on. Often with full page coverage printing I find that you need to user a heavier bond color printing paper to achieve any sort of good quality and reliability in feeding.

Just wondering: my printer's yellow and black toner are both empty and need replacing. Would this cause the printer to calibrate for minutes at a time? After calibrating, I tried printing a document with...

If your going to print in color may it be just red or blue. You really need all of the cartridges for it to work. Because for the printer to come up with those colors. It would need all three colors Cyan, Magenta and Yellow to come up with the any color, in your problem, Blue and Red.

When I print color with my Dell 3100cn the color does not match what I see on the screen. I somehow need to make what prints match the monitor. HELP!

In general the color on the screen is never exactly the same as the printer. You will have to play with the colors on the screen and test the output to see if it is what you really want.

Dell 3100cn (color printer): color smudging

Smuding typically occurs when you print on a heavier paper without changing the settings. By changing the settings to a thick paper type, the page will be send through the printer more slowly. this will likely eliminate the smudging.

Cheers.

Sounds like the fuser. Try heavier paper settings (you have to change them in all 3: driver, printer itself and program you are printing from). If that doesn't work replace the fuser.
