You forget the password for the "admin" user account and can no longer perform important management operations. Wants to reset 3824 3com switch via console - solution.gif Use the password recovery method outlined below to define a new password for the "admin" user account:

  1. Access the Command Line Interface from the console port and enter the user name "recover" and password "recover" to place the Switch in password recovery mode. The Switch remains in password recovery mode for a maximum of 30 seconds, before it returns to the CLI login prompt.
You must use the console port to recover the passsword. If you attempt the recovery method using the network, the password will be rejected.

  2. Perform a hard reset on the Switch whilst it is in password recovery mode by switching it off, waiting a Wants to reset 3824 3com switch via console - note.gifnds, and switching it on again.

I forgot ip address and password and want to factory reset

Connect the console cable, open a connection to the serial port via a utility such as PuTTY, and do the following:
1) Enter the user name "recover" and password "recover" to place your unit in password recovery mode. The unit will remain in password recovery mode for 30 seconds max.
2) Perform a hard reset by removing power, waiting 10 seconds, and then re-applying power.
3) Once the switch has rebooted, enter a new password for the "admin" user account.
4) Enter enable to leave password recovery enabled, or enter disable to turn it off. You are now logged in as the default "admin" user.
Note: If password recovery has been disabled, the only way to recover access is to return the switch to 3com.

I want to reset using RS323 port , i forgot its ip adress

Hi

You can reset the device through RS232 port then please follow the below steps.

You need a laptop with Console port and a console cable for EOC-8610 EXT, You really dont need the IP address if you want to do it via console (RS232) interface.

1. Connect the console cable one end to EOC-8610 EXT RS232 port and other end to Laptop serial port.
2. Open Hyper terminal and select com-port option and then provide the username and password for the device management.
3. Go inside the system menu and select Reset Factory default.

Remember if u set to load the factory default settings, the device will loose its config and will boot up with factory default configuration.

Connecting a 3Com 2952 Plus switch to a Cisco 3750 switch

If you also have a standard copper cable (or a second fibre cable) connecting the two switches (for resilience perhaps?), this issue is probably being caused by something called Spanning Tree. This is implemented on switches as a 'loop avoidance' system, and can look like you have described with one end 'ip' and the other end no lights.

On the Cisco switch, get to a telnet/ssh/console session, log in and enter show spanning-tree and press enter.

have a look to see if the fibre interface has a status (sts column) of BLK. If it has, then this is called 'blocking' and will remain like that until you remove the second link to the other switch.

Hope that this has helped!

How do i Reset or break in to get reset my password on 3Com 2948 Baseline Switch 48Port SFP Plus

The resetting of the password requires the installation of a console cable to the console port.

Be sure the terminal emulator program is set to VT-100 management using compatible, 38400 baud rate, no parity, 8 data bits and Console connection one stop bit.

Use the included cable, or be sure that the pin-out complies with a standard null-modem cable

Once the cable is connected, reboot the switch. Type a Ctrl/C until you enter the failsafe mode. This will be denoted with the prompt: “CFE>”
At the prompt execute the following commands:

CFE> passwrd
CFE> reset -sysreset

At this point the password has been reset.

I cann't connect to my switch

The primary connection method for those switches would be serial connection. In the box there should have been a DB9 serial to RJ45 cable. Hyperterminal default settings would allow you to connect.
