The throat between the beater attachment and the bag is probably clogged up, which the vacuum senses as resistance, and shuts off
1. Unplug it.
2. Unscrew the collar in the aforementioned location ( remove a single screw if necessary)
3. Pull out any globs of hair and dust
4. Reassemble

THE PROBLEM SEAMS TO BE WITH THE THICKNESS OF THE CARPET AND THE PAD-ALL VACUUMS NEED TO BE ABLE TO BREATHE IF THE PAD AND THE CARPET ARE THICK THE VACUUM WILL PULL ITSELF TOWARD THE FLOOR SLOW DOWN THE BRUSHROLL ENOUGH TO TRIGGER THE AUTO SHUTDOWN ON THE MAGNESIUM BECAUSE THE VACUUM CANT BREATHE. TAKE IT TO YOUR LOCAL ORECK AND THEY CAN PUT A FEW HOLES IN YOUR SOLEPLATE AND THIS WILL TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE.

Goes off about 3 seconds after starting. Turned upside down and it ran without turning off. Already checked for blockages

When the light blinks and the unit shuts down it most likely needs to have its bag changed. You may find tha the bag is not up to the fill line, but is likely over a half. Our experience is to change the bag and the problem resolves.

Blinking 'Check Collector Cell' light

which model XL series do you have? There is obviously something shorted or arcing on the plates of the cell. look at the plates and see if they are laying flat and the wires are all still attached across the front of the cell. A loose, sagging, broken or bad contact on the end plates will cause the bad cell lights. clean off the area where the cell makes contact inside the unit. The metal strips that run across the ends of the cell make contact with the plates inside the cell and get their power from them, dirty contacts in any part of these contacts will cause the problem. Even a bad contact from the end cap to the plates inside the cell will cause this. Try wiggling the cell around, kind of push on it on edge to get the plates to shift slightly and clean the points where the plates touch the outer strips on the sides. Check for arcing with the lights turned off,

Clogged head

You can try a sink drain flexible wire cleaner. if this will work for you then simply turn/twist it till it gets to the location and hook the object with the end of it. that should work...hopefully

Slipping belt

Hello!
The belt on your Magnesium is a fiber reenforsed belt that is designed to not stretch from normal use. Therefore it is not the easiest to acesss when it does need replaced. The belt will need replaced likely. The beltis on the left side of the vacuum and requires you to remove the side of the unit as well as to make it easier the bottom blue piece that is over the brushroller. Honestly I would advise anyone with this issue to take it to an Oreck repair center. Because ethe belts don't stretch it's difficult to roll the new belt on. Hope this helps!
