SOURCE: Sony Mini - Hi Fi MHC - EC55 won't play

If you've already tried to clean the lens then with no improvement then its down to the laser having failed.

In some cases these are availble as a replacement part but aren't normally cost effective.

I have a Sony MHC-C90 mini hi-fi component system that I haven't used in a while and just hooked up after moving to a new house. The unit turns on, but I can't get the CD drawers to open. The

Try changing the belts that control the cd mechanism. There is one belt on the bottom that drives the cd assembly and two smaller ones in the left and right of unit. One controls the cd eject function the other controls the cd selection option. This particular linear skate cd system needs to have its belts changed otherwise the motors won’t work the mechanism at all.

Sony Mini Hi-Fi Component System (MHC-RG660)

I understand the problem. It should be the relay which is not responding, technically not able to connect the system power supply, you will have to replace the relay. The STK chip should be working fine.
