I have a Canon A560 with a 2GB SD Card. I have tried clearing my memory card 3 ways:
1) Completely deleting the contents of the DCIM folder via Windows Explorer (having tried with the memory card reader and through USB cable)
2) Choosing "Menu" then "erase all images"
3) Deleting each photo individually
Each of the 3 methods gives the indication that the memory card has been cleared (the latter 2 will show on the display "No Image" when in the playback mode immediately after deletion). However, when I power off then power on the camera, the images are back!
To note, the "Lock" slider on the memory card is in the "Off" position. I have also tried to format the memory card but receive the message "Memory Card Error" then the camera powers down.
Deleting pictures has never been an issue before. Any suggestions?
Two possible solutions.
1. Apple users have reported that the switch on the memory cards performs the file lock function in either extreme positions Lock/Unlock. In some cases they have achieved success in centering the Lock/Unlock switch allowing access to the read/write operation of the memory card
2. Connect to PC
Access drive via windows explorer
Right click on drive (MEMORY CARD)
Select properties
Confirm that RO (Read Only) is not selected.
Selected RO
Try reading card
Repeat properties un-select RO
Try deleting files
If not successful card is likely defective
Hope this helps?

Try formatting the memory card via a card reader connected to your PC. Use FAT32.

Turns out, it's the card itself. Bought a new card and it works like a charm.
Have you called Canon on their toll free Tech support line? 1-800-828-4040. they have really helped me a lot.
