Canon A560 will not erase pictures

I have a Canon A560 with a 2GB SD Card. I have tried clearing my memory card 3 ways:

1) Completely deleting the contents of the DCIM folder via Windows Explorer (having tried with the memory card reader and through USB cable)
2) Choosing "Menu" then "erase all images"
3) Deleting each photo individually

Each of the 3 methods gives the indication that the memory card has been cleared (the latter 2 will show on the display "No Image" when in the playback mode immediately after deletion). However, when I power off then power on the camera, the images are back!

To note, the "Lock" slider on the memory card is in the "Off" position. I have also tried to format the memory card but receive the message "Memory Card Error" then the camera powers down.

Deleting pictures has never been an issue before. Any suggestions?

Turns out, it's the card itself. Bought a new card and it works like a charm.

Two possible solutions.

1. Apple users have reported that the switch on the memory cards performs the file lock function in either extreme positions Lock/Unlock. In some cases they have achieved success in centering the Lock/Unlock switch allowing access to the read/write operation of the memory card

2. Connect to PC
Access drive via windows explorer
Right click on drive (MEMORY CARD)
Select properties
Confirm that RO (Read Only) is not selected.
Selected RO
Try reading card
Repeat properties un-select RO
Try deleting files

If not successful card is likely defective

Hope this helps?

Try formatting the memory card via a card reader connected to your PC. Use FAT32.

My sandix 2gb microSD mameory card is write protected how will i remove it?

1.Look for a switch or button on the side of the micro SD card or adapter. It might have a lock/unlock symbol on it. 2.Move the switch to the "Unlocked" position to remove write protection. This position may also be labeled "R/W" for read/write. If you have no switch, continue to Step 3. 3.Download and install Sony EzRecover (see Resources for link) and attempt to use it to format the card (this will erase all content). If this doesn't work, try Step 4. 4.Delete and repartition the micro SD card using Windows XP. Select "Control Panel" > "Administrative Tools" > "Disk Management." Select the micro SD drive and click "Delete." Right-click on empty drive and select "New Partition."

Erased pictures.

You can try connecting the memory card to a PC via a memory card reader and using an undelete utility to recover the files. Go to this link for a step-by-step procedure and software references (free). http://www.ehow.com/how_4461259_restore-deleted-files-sd-card.html

My Canon Powershot A560 memory card is locked and it is the camera doing it not the memory stick. When I turn on my camera I get an error message"memory card error" then when i press to view pictures it...

1

Turn the Canon Powershot A560 over so the bottom is facing up.
2

Locate the door on the bottom of the camera. The door is labeled "CARD/BATT. OPEN."

3

Place your thumb on the slider on the door. Push the slider up to unlock the door. Then, slide the door out to open it.
4

Find the SD card. Inside you will see four batteries and the tip of a small plastic disc. This plastic disc is the SD card.
5

Eject the sd digital memory card. To eject the card, gently push on it and then release the pressure. The SD card will pop out part way. Go ahead and pull out the card.
6

Turn the card so the writing is right-side up. On either the left or right side of the card, you will see a grove with a tiny plastic switch in it. If the switch is at the bottom of the groove, the SD card is locked.
7

Unlock the SD card. Using a fingernail, slide the switch to the top of the groove. The card is now unlocked.
8

Return the SD card to the camera. Place the card in the slot and push down until you hear a click. The card is now successfully reinstalled. Do not worry about inserting the card the wrong way, because it will only fit one way.

I need to recover accidently erased image files from my sd card for my Canon S2-IS camera

First of all, do not save any new file to camera's memory card.

Take out memory card, and connect it to computer using a card reader. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in Windows Explorer.
Download this photo recovery software
http://www.asoftech.com/apr/
Install and open the photo recovery software, select the memory card, and click 'Start' button.

Does "memory card full" mean you have to purchase another for canon powershot sd750 or can you erase?

You can either erase the pictures or transfer them to a computer using the supplied USB cable or remove the flash memory and insert directly into the computer's sd card port.

Canon SD1200 IS won't save pictures to the memory card.

This Canon uses an SD memory card (previous Canon used CF cards).
The SD memory card has a "slide switch" that locks the card.
Look at the SD memory card and move the switch back and forth, then switch it all the way to the UNLOCK position. Put back in the camera and format the card, then use it.

Since this is a 10Megapixel camera, use at least a 2GB SD memory card. A 2GB SD card will hold 700 pictures, or so, in the best setting.

Hope this helps!

Memory Card Locked.... how do I un-lock it?

Your memory card has a small white "switch" on the side. Move the switch and your card will unlock. It is a saftey so you don't erase anything accidentaly.

I want to erase a video, but not "erase all images"

Careful, the way you're doing it would actually erase everything. Use that way only after you've downloaded all your pictures and videos to your computer.

The way to erase a single image or video is to go into picture/video review mode. Advance so that you can see the video you want to delete on your LCD screen. Then press the "trashcan" button on the back of your camera once. It may ask you "delete this video?". Select "yes".
