I have a Yamaha RX-V650 receiver that has developed a fault.
If you switch it to standby for any length of time, ie overnight, it won't then power back on again.
I have discovered that if you pull the mains plug out of the socket and then plug it back in again, something clicks within the amp, and you can then power it on.
This has been going on for about a week, but the other night it seemed to be worse. It took several goes of unplugging, replugging before it came on.
Once on it works perfectly well.
From my brief description could anyone hazard a guess as to what's going on?
I have searched the web in vain for a service manual hoping that might give me a clue. If it's something like a failing component then I'm sure i would be capable of replacing it.
Any pointers greatly appreciated.
In my case ButtFuzz was right... except that there was no visible faults at all....
I've fixed my RX-V650 with these symptoms by replacing the capacitor
namned C405 close to the transformer with a new polypropylene capacitor of 0,022µF 630V...
Might be worth a try before tossing it out... :)

You've probably already tried this, but...
Disconnect power from the mains, remove lid.
Reseat all the low-power connectors in the unit.
Check the thermister on/near the main transformer.
Check capacitors on or near power supply for obvious anomalies (fattness, leaking, smoked, etc.)
Replace lid and, plug back in, do a rain dance and hope.
Got a picture of where that capacitor sits?

I have exactly the same problem only I have a different model (RX-V4600. I have had it "repaired" by an authorised service centre but the problem came back about a month later. Any help greatly appreciated as I dont really want to plonk down more cash for "repairs".
