Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC24 uses a belt engineered to last the lifetime of the machine. It's protected by a safety cut-out system, which shuts off the brush bar if something jams it. If the brush bar in your machine isn't rotating, it's likely the machine simply needs resetting. This is simple to do - please follow the steps shown in the video below.

The brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright, so make sure you recline your machine into the vacuuming position before testing it after the reset procedure.

I'm confident that this will resolve the issue, but if you would like any further advice, please give our freephone customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

Jack

The brush is not rotating. The grey button that is supposed to initiate some safety mechanism does nothing.

Hi Jane, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC24 includes a belt engineered to last the lifetime of the machine in normal use. It's protected by a sensor which shuts off the brush bar for protection if something jams it in use. Usually, following each of the steps shown in our video guide will allow you to reset your machine:

Press the red reset button on the cleaner head firmly with something like the eraser-end of a pencil - you should hear and feel a click. The brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright, so recline it into the normal vacuuming position before testing it.

Please note, the silver-coloured switch next to the red/on off switch should allow you to shut off the brush bar when cleaning hard floors or delicate rugs.

Does the dc24 cleaner head have a drive belt

This might answer your question. Belt can't be seen but there is some drive from the motor to the brush drive.

The brush bar isn't going round ?

your problem seems to be the belt has snapped. Underneath the the hover there is a rubber belt that connects around the brush bar and around the motor, this belt will be broken. They can purchased from any hoover shop for a couple of pounds.

My brush wont spin

hi hckymom. when the brush won't spin it is almost always because the belt is broken. Dyson requires you to buy a new drive belt assembly. Easy to install but expensive....usually about 70 dollars. Joe
