If the mechanism has jammed, due to age or lack of use that causes tarnisg=hing on the contacts, the motor/mechanism will not load.
I would get it serviced at an aurgorised Minolta repair shop.

As of 2007 Minolta stoped all camera related products. You may however go thru Sony at http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/contact/sonylist/index.html to find your local support center.

If this camera is a Minolta Dimage X20, then the problem is probably a faulty CCD, this may be repaired free of charge, I suggest you contact a Sony service center as they have taken over support for Minolta cameras.
