I have a desktop emachine with vista. my daughter forgot her password so we cant get into the computer. can i reset the computer or by pass her password

You can reset administrator password with Windows built-in administrator account:

1. Log on with the guest account on windows, then right click computer, and choose Management.
2. Expand Local Users and Groups and Users in the console.
3. Right-click Administrator account and select Properties.
4. On the General tab, clear the Account is Disabled check box.
5. Close the console.
Now the super administrator account is successfully enabled. Next, you can easily reset the forgotten admin password from "Start->Control Panel".

OK, if you are running Windows 7, Microsoft tightened security on it so you've got to have a password reset disk which 99% of the people who own laptops with windows 7 fail to do. If you're on Windows XP or Vista try this:

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Mode option. Select SAFE MODE and let the computer boot up. When it gets to the User Login screen it will show the Administrator userid and the userid for which you forgot the password. Sign in as the Administrator (hopefully you didn't put a password on it and forgot it too). Once the desktop appears it will look different, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, but this is normal for safe mode.

Click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
When the User Accounts screen opens, click on the userid for which you forgot the password. Select the option to REMOVE PASSWORD.

Reboot your machine.

Hi.
Press f8 or f10 it will allow you to start your system in safe mode. Enter as administrator and create a new account.
