Sometimes the tape sensors or record sensor gets bent or out of place so the door wont shut. Look for something like that.

SOURCE: Left Deck Door Stuck Shut on Cassette Deck

The cassette mechanism has a large gear that rotates to different positions for the different modes. On time around is a play - stop cycle. It is stuck in one position and won't come around to the stop spot. Need to take the cover off and help it to turn to get the cassette out. Then figure out if something is wrong preventing it from turning or if the wheel driving it is the problem. They are all a little different so this is where your mechanical apptitude comes in.
By the way, you'll figure out right away they don't intend these things to be fixed.
Hope Ya Fix It.

SOURCE: cannot get cassette doors to eject

the motor that drives the mechanism is jammed or burnt out.if you remove the cover and turn the big metal weights driven by the motor, the unit will dock the assembly and the door should open.
it thinks it is playing a tape and that is why the eject doesnt work

The door those not close when I put a cassette in it. I closes normaly without a tape. Does anybody know this problem ?

alot of cassette tape deck doors actually come off, they clip onto the inner door assembly, if the outer part isnt clipped on correctly, it may shut without a tape, but not with a tape inserted, try to see if the outer door is clipped on there correctly, jim d

Sony TC WR565 dual tape deck. Both doors will not

you can not fix it without tearing it apart. if you do take it apart, try to get the front panel off. Hit the eject button and look for a lever that is stuck.

I can't eject the cassettes from the deck - both seem to be stuck. How do I fix this problem?

only one way. I did this before. take your fingernails, stick them in the top of the door, and pull. want to use it again, put tape to hold door close.

My sony trv37 cassette door won't close.

If this condition only occurs with as cassette inserted to load this may indicate a condition where the cylinder which holds the video heads is not spinning up when requested by the system control microprocessor.
If the door will not latch closed with/or without a cassette inserted this can indicated a mis-timed condition of the tape loading mechanism.
Try closing the door without a cassette loaded whilst the unit is powered from its AC Adaptor - under certain conditions this may allow the mechanism to reset and may allow the door to then close.
I trust that this information is of assistance! RHN

I had the same problem. You probably have to replace the rubber belts.

Tape will not turn

The more detailed the description of the problem, the better for diagnosing the root cause. Thanks.

It sounds like you have a couple of problems. I'll address them as you have them numbered above.

1. Decks typically have belts to drive the various 'reel' mechanisms. Therefore, they can slip without breaking anything inside the machine or the tape. Your first symptom leads me in that direction.

2. That it migrated is mysterious, unless Sony is using a common motor to handle both decks' reel duties.

3. This symptom may have something to do with the root cause of both sides jamming...

Do the cassette well doors come off, say, for cleaning? Could they be dislodge? If so, they may have something to do with the jamming problems in # 1 and #2 as the doors play a part in positioning the cassette and holding it in place against the reel motor cogs. How do the doors operate with NO tape inserted?

Does it take excessive force to close the door only WITH a tape? make sure the tape is fully seated before closing the door. The capstans (directly below each reel cog) have to engage through the small holes at the lower edge of the cassette. They should be straight and clean. Any dirt or oxide on them will cause problems as these are what move the tape at the precise speed necessary for good playback or recording.
---

My hipshot recommendation, otherwise, is to look around inside the cassette wells very carefully for any foreign matter, debris, dust bunnies.

Do you maintain the deck as recommended?

Door won't open

It might be a model that has a special IC that allows the door to open and close.

You'll need to take the case off.

try hifiengine.com...that site may have the service manual.
