Peeling paint coming off of oil rubbed bronze basket strainer

I purchased a kohler kitchen sink along with mt300/orb mountain basket strainer oil rubbed bronze. Both sink strainers and the drains are peeling off and the underneath shows the basket strainers are just commone "painted" stainless baskets. Should the paint peel off? Are there not such things as bronze strainers? What does the term oil rubbed mean?

Bronze is more expensive than standard mass production is worth, i supposed if you want them made out of any mat. you can call kohler and pay for it, i've been to their plant and they do some pretty awsome custom work.
Rubbed oil is just a color and somtimes "you get what you pay for" if you buy a cheap basket strainer they usually do exactly what you're saying.
You can buy more expensive strainers that have a better finish, I know Kohler and Moen have lifetime warranty finish on many of their higher end products.

you must use genuine kohler parts,if you got something from lowes or home depot that was some other brand they usually leak. also look for calcium build up inside the valve body, you can use 1500 grit wet sand paper to remove it just be carefull and dont sand too much, then apply water proof plumbers grease inside the valve body befor you install the new cartridge.

Both of the Pegasus baskets in my sink have come apart. I put them back together and they come apart again. I would like to purchase new baskets, but can only find the entire drain assembly, which I do...

I know what you mean I had similar problems with my sink strainers, unfortunately is you want to get a good working basket you have to buy the whole drain assembly. You can get some cheap ones at a home store but they will only break again and probably won't match up. What I recommend is swapping out your drains with a drain brand that won't break again like Kohler, Moen, or Elkay. All you need to install a new drain is the new drains, a drain nut removal tool and some plumbers putty. Take the old drain out clean around the whole and install the new one with a ring of plumbers putty around the hole.

I am on my 3rd Pegasus sink strainer (bail-lock basket)in 2 years. The pull handles come off. Is there any way to stop this from happening? Is there any way to contact the manufacturer directly?

Pegasis is a cheap brand of strainer.

I would get a better quality strainer...
ProFlo, moen, franke, Blanco, and even kohler

you might pay a few dollars more, but they will last much longer

What is better durability for the materials in a kitchen basket strainer, brass or brass PVC?

PVC is easier to break, but takes hard or high iron water better.

Brass seems to last longer overall in my experience

I have many scratches on my kohler stainless sink.how do I remove them?

You would use rubbing compound -- same kind of stuff as used on autos -- there are different grits -- super fine on up, just like sandpaper. It'll tak a lot of rubbing. Probably good do a reasonable job with a buffer/etc. on a drill motor.
