THE DVD DRAWER WILL NOT OPEN!!

Look on the face of the DVD drawer. You will see a tiny hole in it. Straighten a paper clip and push it in the hole until it stops. Push further and the drawer will open mechanically far enough for you to grab it and open it completely.

Apex is a hard brand to find info or parts for--not intended to ever be repaired etc.

GOOGLE the model number of the unit for a "manual" to see if the owner manual is available online.

There is a small belt under the loading tray which would have gone slack ( loose ) and the sound you hear is it slipping on the motor pulley. If you are confident you can remove the mechanism and turn it upside down and access this belt. Dismantle only if you can get the spare belt or your efforts will be in vain.

There is typically a small rubber belt or plastic gear that goes between the tray motor and the tray. Most modern units have the plastic gear. I would bet that it is missing a tooth or stripped its teeth or possibly fell off completely. You should be able to manually push the drawer in. To open it, there should be a small hole near the tray into which you can push a straightened-out paper clip.

Please check the bellow instructions:-
Turn off your DVD player. Locate your DVD player's manual Eject button. It is usually a small hole located underneath the DVD drawer.
Insert a stiff wire-such as a paperclip or safety pin-into the hole. Push gently and the drawer should open partway. Gently pull the drawer the rest of the way open.
Remove the DVD and see if there is a problem with it. Most DVD player drawers get stuck when a DVD is warped or the label is starting to peel. If the DVD is warped, discard it. If the label is peeling, remove the label.
Turn your DVD player back on. If it gets stuck again on a different DVD, then the problem may be with your DVD player rather than with your DVDs.

Straighten a paperclip. On the face of most disk players there is a small hole. Push the paper clip into the hole, and the disk tray should release. Pull the tray out to it's full extension. Power being on or off is immaterial. Hope this help.

there's a black band that connects the motor to the pulley that opens the drawer.....this band has been burst.

easy to replace by using a small rubber band.

just finished doing this with my one.

now the drawer opens and closes ok.

I have the same problem. Best way to open the door is to hit the eject button and then bang lightly on the door using the remote controller. Works every time.

You trying to put the DVD/VCR combo between the cable box and the TV? OK, cable out goes to vcr in, vcr out goes to tv, I think you got that. Now there should be a tv/vcr button on the vcr/dvd, you need to press that when the unit is on. Also, make sure you are on the correct input on both the vcr and the tv, usually video 1 or AUX and choose line in or L1 on the vcr/dvd. If the tv/vcr button is toggled, itll completely bypass the vcr/dvd player.

seems like the rubber band is broken. no there is not secret back door to it..you have to open it and change the rubber band. it is not that complicated
