Question about Pride Mobility Jazzy Select Wheelchair - Used Power Chairs

Jazzy Select controller on-off switch (push button) very difficult to operate. Must push button down with much force to get it to work. Can I get the controller apart without ruining it?

On-off switch is a cushioned push button. It takes much force pushing it down for it to work. Can I take the controller apart without ruining it? Is it possible for me to fix it?

Additional info. The on-off push button on the controller will only turn it on or off if you push the button down very hard. I'm pretty good at fixing things. Is it possible for me to get the controller apart and back together or is it more or less a sealed unit?

The display on top of that joystick controller is essentially a fancy decal. it can just be peeled off. Usually when the symptom you're describing is happening it is because the button on the underside of the decal is wearing out. This can't be fixed. The joystick face must be replaced. However, you should be able to get this from a certified Pride dealer for 60 or 70 bucks versus several hundred for a new joystick controller.

Thanks but this controller has an actual button that depresses to turn it on or off.. I'm wodering if I can get the top of the controller off without damage.

Is this controller the one that has a dial for the speed control instead of buttons? If so, I don't believe you can remove the cover on that one. Even the harness is hardwired in on that unit, It's basically designed to just be replaced if it malfunctions. I've spoken with Pride about this controller before and they don't recommend trying to perform repairs even as a service tech.

Yes that's the one. I guess it's toast. I'm trying to make it work better so I can sell the power chair for my mother (she got a new one). I'll just sell it "as is" cheap.

Unlock control stick for jazzy select power chair.

Gerald,
Well there are a couple ways, One is push the start button within 10 sec. push the horn button twice. This should do it, but if it is a different Joystick then try, push the button to start then hold the Joystick forward until it beeps, then hold the joystick knob back until it beeps and then it should be unlocked.

When you press on the off/on button, you have to keep holding it down for it to either go off or on. Occassionally it won't even do that when you press the switch.

The control panel overlay is available as a replacement part.
Remove the old membrane overlay and clean with alcohol. Peel and stick on the new part and you will find that the inductive switches will work properly.

100%charged select Elite- What is procedure to start power on / off?

Sounds like the switch itself.. the black button.. is defective. Best case is, the Pride dealer that sold the chair will fix it. If they sold the chair to you, and billed insurance to pay for it, they should bill insurance to pay for the repair. Call the dealer.

If you're on your own, you need to find the part. Does this look like it would fit?

De-sentizie controller on a jazzy elite

Yes, it is possible. If you take the chair to dealer who sells Pride, they should have a programmer available to change the settings on the joystick controller.

Is there a on and off switch on a jazzy power chair

No. You can lock the controller electrically. You need to check the operators manual for the procedure for the model of controller you have.

Re: Pride Jazzy 1103 Ultra. Chair is acting like the seat is still elevated and the speed is set to slow (with indicator light flashing). Please let me know what should I be checking?

When the power seat lift lowers down, there is usually a bracket that pushes a button under the seat that tells the motor the seat is lowered and the power chair is safe to operate. Sometimes the bracket can get bent and the button does not get pressed when the seat goes down. Check under the seat around the seat post for the button and make sure the bracket is connecting to it. Carefully bend it back into place if it is not hitting the button properly. If the bracket came off, it will need to be replaced.
Good luck!

Somehow I have locked my Jazzy 6 Select Electric wheelchair. I know you need to push the trottle but I really don't know what to do.

Try This:

To unlock the power chair.
1. Use the on / off button to switch the control system on. The maximum speed / profile indicator will be rippling up and down.

2. Deflect the joystick forward until the control system beeps.

3. Deflect the joystick in reverse until the control system beeps.

4. Release the joystick, there will be a long beep.

5. The power chair should now be unlocked.

Hope it works.
