The problem is the control board if neither the remote or local swiych will work. Assuming the board is plugged in correctly and proper battery voltage is present. I would NOT recommend jumping the solenoid !

My 98 buick regal won't start unless I jump across the 2 posts on the starter all fuses are good

Are you sure about the fuses? There are 2 fuses in the fuse block on the right side of the dash both 10 Amp one is marked "crank sig" and the other is "PCM-BCM" there is another in the under hood fuse block it's a 40 Amp maxi fuse marked "CRANK". If they're all good suspect the transmission range switch. Have you tried starting it in neutral? There's a starter relay in the under hood fuse block you can try to swap it with another relay with the same number and lastly the ignition switch could be bad but this switch usually is not a problem. I hope this helps. Take care. If you have any more questions I can help you with use comment and it will show up in my email please let me know what you' done so far and if you have a test light.

My 2008 chevy Silverado LS won't start I just hear a clicking noise when I try to crank it and the battery seem to be fine

The click sound is the starter selinoid. you can attemt to bypass the selinoid by jumping the two big wires on the starter together and see if the starter spins. But it sounds like your starter is burned up. Time to replace it.

Starter fusible link

wow no year, or even honda car model stated, amazing...but..
crossing what.?
big lug to big
or big to little terminal.
a key fact that......????????
if the starter runs then all fuses are good in the engine bay.
the main starter is not fused anyway. sorry.

if starter cranks engine, with big outside lug jumped to small terminal
that means the KEY line is failing.

the car has A/T or M/T again, i must guess.... sad that.
the M'/T the key line is interrupted by the clutch switch.
the A/T is interrupted by the PRNDL switch on the tranny
all cars can have an alarm system or other BS, that cuts
this line too. (BS like add on remote starts, etc)\

when you turn the key to start, the key line goes to 12v
and must arrive at the solenoid, if not bingo.
its obvious what is wrong, a dead key line.
find it.
a voltmeter (any made in 50 years) finds this in 30min work.

Have put in a new ignition switch and will not put power to the selinoid, when I take a screw driver to the selinoid it just grinds and does not engage starter.

Hi mogan749, jump from the battery to the starter and see if it cranks. I suspect a bad battery or bad connections, I would try this first. Hope this helps. If not please re post.

Do you plug the gernerator into the house and then start it or start it first and then plug it in

The generator should be attached to the gentran switch box then started. Once started, then follow instructions for that system to swich to generator power. Some setups may have their own initiating order, it is important to obtain the correct instructions from your manufacturer and keep them where you can find them in a hurry.
I hope you don't need it too often:)

Will not start. Can jump accross the selinoid and

I assume that you are jumping the solenoid in order to bypass an ignition switch that is no longer operating?

If so, did you have the key turned to the run position?

You should not need to bypass any safety switches, just be sure that everything is in the normal starting position. (deck disengaged, in neutral, etc.)

Either way, it sounds like you have a bad ignition switch, or faulty wiring between the ignition switch and the solenoid.

try over riding the starter relay on the fender ,it has one there right?. dont go to a mechanic yet. the engine aint seized. if it doesnt have this relay then i would get the alternator tested. if you want to test it yourself it can be costly for the right equip. autozone usually tests for free. i dont know were you live so if theres not an autozone. let me know if you cant get it tested.
