I have a 23" Polaroid CRT TV which is making loud popping noises every 15 minutes or so.
This has no effect on the sound or picture but scares my dog every time.
It seems to come from the left side (as you face the screen)

I'm having an issue with my 40" Polaroid LCD TV making a mysterious popping noise every so often. I'm curious to know what is causing this loud noise. It happens more when the TV is off. Other than the noise, the TV works perfectly fine. Weird.
My sony trinitron a very old model box tv makes a very loud banging sound ever 10-30 minutes on or off. Best way to describe it like a cracking or splitting wood sound. I'm guessing its from the plastic case around the tv its built with. It'll make that sound too when i walk near it and from my movement the vibration triggers the sound. However alot of times when there is no movement or anything it'll just pop so loud it'll scare the heck out of me.
The 23" CRT set may have a high voltage breakdown in the flyback transformer or focus divider. Take the back off and operate the set in a dark room. Look for anything that has a blue glow around it or sparks flying when the pop occurs. I won't guarantee this will find your problem, but it is definitive if you see these!
I once had a set with these symptoms. I stopped the blue glow and arcing by covering the focus divider with epoxy. It worked for a couple of months before the divider literally broke apart.
The noise in the LCD TV may be coming from the standby power supply or some
odd transient in the control circuitry is putting a spike turn-on in
the audio amplifier. It could be the result of a loose connection - maybe your power cord isn't in all the way or you have bad wiring (does a lamp plugged into the same outlet flicker at the same time?) If you can identify more precisely where in the set the noise
comes from, that would help.
