I have a ps3 and it will play any other games but cod 5

Usually heat or bad sectors/ corrupt sectors on the hard drive will cause this issue.

I'd recommend getting two cans of compressed air, taking it outside and clearing out the dust, then when you play cod run a mini fan directly onto the unit.

COD runs heavy on the graphics hence it happening more with that game than others ;)

Try reseting the whole system. Hold the button for 10 to 15 sec. Then try, I had this same problem w/COD WAW. It fixed the problem, but wont fix the crapy server problem COD offers. Good luck

I've got a ps3 and call of duty 4+5, half the fun of the game is playing with a mate and I've had exactly the same problem as you. It just seems to be about trial and error sometimes, have tried connecting like you for over an hour before and then on other days it just connects wth my mate straight away.
Sometimes it helps to join a game(so you can see and hear other players) then invite your mate, if he/she to reply to your invite is quick sometimes you can get in that way.
The only other bit of advice is to try different times of the day as the load on the servers does change throughout the day, apart from that it really is an issue with activision and for me the playstation network

I have had similar issues...but only with the ps3. I believe it is just an activision firmware issue

u just give it for your nearby electronic operators

try finding out what ports COD4 servers use and make sure your router/firewall is not blocking them

I'd start with a System Restore.

Go to SETTINGS, System Restore.

This will set your PS3 back to factory default.

If you have game saves copy them to an external usb drive or flash drive.

Your guys answers ****!! Do not delete the game data that is stupid and only works for a handful of people.1. Log off of your playstation account.2. Load the game ( it should now load fine while not being logged onto PSN)3. When reaching the start menu do not press start!!!!4. Tap the home button and log onto your account.5. After logged on tap the button again and the game will run fine.

sorry man, i know how it feels.
your ps3's disk drive is dirty. try using a lens cleaner CD.
if that does not work, clean all of the dust using compressed air. AND since its not under warranty, go ahead and open it up. use the compressed air to blow allover the ps3's inside. How to open PS3.
If that does not work, your disk drive is bad. either find a replacement Drive online or sell it on eBay.
