From the description the new DVD driver is defective and should be returned if still under warranty. The only concern that I have is the replacement you got is identical to the original and that it is not a aftermarket product, because they don't have the same specifications as the original.
does it do this with all discs or just discs that have been burned? if it's just cd's that have been burned it could be that the writing session wasn't closed properly, if it's all discs then it could be a drive setting. more than likely though, the tech swapped the drive out completely which is why he said 'not to worry about it'
unplug for 2 minutes, then plug back in. This works,If you haven't done this already, try a
different disc, preferably one it has played successfully before. If
another disc works, then take a look at the working side of the disc
that doesn't work and check for scratches or smudges. Or, if it's a
recordable disc, it may just be a brand that your player can't handle.
Every now and then, I even get a factory DVD that my player can't
handle.
If this is happening with any disc, even ones it has played
successfully, then we'll hope for dust on the laser lens. Get a lens
cleaning disc and try it. If that doesn't work, you may have to replace
the player.
my pc did that recently, it would read the disk not all of it, so I went out & got a new drive & the new drive is reading everything
it's very possible the dvd drive is going out
Unfortunately there is no solution to this problem unless Yahoo decides to give users that option. Several complaints have been logged on this site, and I've informed Yahoo of the issues users are facing.
Unless they acknowledge this problem, it will not be fixed.

Use ImgBurn. When burning data/music to disc. Choose 4x or lowers write speed. Faster write speeds have more chance of error. If you want the most accurate burn, I would suggest 2x. It may take a while but a chance of error is very low
CDBurnerXP is a good, free disc burning program that can do what you need. Rather than try to duplicate the information here, I'll just say that help is here on their website that explains how to use the program. It's quite simple, though. You just drag-and-drop the files you want to burn to the program's layout window, and when you're done adding files you click the "burn" button.
