LG LDS581 dishwasher HE error mid cycle

A week ago we noticed a melted plastic smell while it was "sanitizing". Stopped dishwasher for the night and all seemed fine. Have used it daily since with no issues. Now it has thrown the HE error code. We just restarted and it seems fine again. Hot water flowing fine, steamed when open mid wash like usual. Wondering if it was a fluke or needs attention?

HEATING (ELEMENT) ERROR // Water heating error
The manufacturer has assigned this error or fault code to indicate a problem with the water heating circuit. Turn off the circuit breaker to the dishwasher for 30 minutes, allowing time for the appliance to cool; then restart the cycle. If error returns, check the heating element for continuity and check the wiring harness for any obvious signs of damage. If the heating element shows infinite resistance after testing with an Ohm meter, replace it.

Since water doesn't drain out ,it could be a clogged in the drain line. Often the problem is at the point where the drain line attaches to the garbage disposer or household drain line. You should remove this line and clear it form any debris in the hose or the hose connection. Be sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher again. Good luck!

SOURCE: LG Dishwasher making grinding noise then blinking E1 code 10 minutes later

Well done by resolving this problem. The other way to avoid the siphoning problem through the drain hose is adding an air gap valve/connector (available at any hardware store). You can use it even if you don't have a garbage disposal in your kitchen sink. That will assure that you have the proper height of the drain hose.
Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Error code OE; dishwasher stops with error message 2 min into cycle, drainage seems OK, water doesn't appear to pump into machine - any advice?

Hi,
The most common cause of an OE error code on a modern LG dishwasher is:
1. Blocked drain hose
2. Obstruction in the sump area (beneath the filter, which needs to be removed to check for onstruction)
3. Failing drain motor.
else you need to REPLACE THE PCB POWER CONTROL BOARD
Good Luck!!!

A plastic lid melted on the coil, still smells like "melted wax", seems clean, what can I do?

You will probably have to replace the heating coil in the bottom of the dishwasher to get rid of the smell. The coils aren't that expensive and replacing them is an easy job. Hardest part is getting the dishwasher out from under the counter to do it.

Dishwasher smells

johnnette acree, here are a couple possibilities
1. Look in the bottom of the dishwasher there is a catch basin or cylinder look for large food item that maybe stuck. clean it out.2. Be sure the drain hose is connected with a loop in it that goes up to the top of the cabinet and then back down.3. Run the dish washer empty with soap and heat dry or use sanitize cycle. after cycle completes leave dishwasher open overnight. The smell should be gone in the morning.
Hope this helps

Smell and "LE" error

I haven't been able to get rid of the smell for the 2+ years we have owned the washing machine!  I've tried everything.
We had a LE error light and they (the LG people) told us to unload the machine, unplug it for 30 minutes, plug it back in and then run it empty as follows: turn it on, select spin speed as "no spin" and then press start.  Run it that way twice.
Worked for us, but the smell remains.
