The HP DeskJet 6122 can print with both or only one ink cartridge installed. The printer driver includes an option to print in gray scale as a substitution for color. If you choose to print a document that has a color other than black and white with only a black cartridge installed, I recommend you select the gray scale print option. To select gray scale, select the printer properties and check the box for gray scale rather than color printing. This selection can be made either at the time a document is ready to print (ie., a one time selection, using the "Properties" box in the print options window), OR as a permenant setting using the Control Panel, Printers, HP DeskJet 6122, "Properties" window. Once changed in the general printer properties, these settings remain active anytime the HP DeskJet 6122 printer is selected to print a document.
Go to start->control panel->printer->right click on the default printer(your mut be deskjet 6122)->go to properties..there you will see print test page
Sounds like the scanning mirror might be locked - during shipping, the mirror is locked to prevent damage. Look around the back or the underside of the unit and look for a slider with a lock/unlock picture on it. Slide it to unlock and the mirror should be free to move.
Try putting Isopropyl alcohol on the feed rollers. These rollers become hard and smooth with time and cause all sorts of paper feed problems. You can find isopropyl alcohol at any drug store(it is rubbing alcohol).
Please follow this link to a set of instructions on HP's online supporte site that will take you through the steps required to release a cartridge stall.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread. If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
Perferences in XP look different than in Vista, but you should be able to find the 2-sided peference for your laptop driver by going to the Control Panel > Printers > and selecting peferences using the HP6122 icon. In some versions the 2-side preference is in the "advanced" tab. Using the "advanced" tab will likely have check boxes rather than a full setting screen as in XP, but both work the same. You should see all the 2-side features present with radio buttons to select your preference. Likewise, when printing in Vista, you can select settings different than default preferences, in which case you can change the defaults for a single document print. Again, this will look different than in XP, but you should find the 2 side feature available either as a feature tab or in the "advanced" tab.
It almost sounds as if the guide on the left side has been moved. Reload the paper so it is up against the right side of the paper tray and then move the left guide up against the paper.
