You need to know which hinge you want to replace. Then you can find the hinge on Ebay cheaper than most manufactures, Also you can search on google search and find many videos with step by step disassembly and re assembly of the hinge.

Try reseating the video cable and ensure the cable is chafed where is passes thru the hinge assembly. If no change, then the LCD will likely need replacement

If your computer is still in warranty you can call the manufacturer of your laptop if its not try to check with google. Or visit them on their wer sites there's a part there for supports and downloads.

Most of the time you can find a replacement through Ebay, however, the repair can be kinda tricky. If you post the model number, I can try to find more information and maybe a link to a new hinge for you.

Remove the RTC battery for at least 15 monutes then replace. Get into BIOS and reset date and time. Removing the Coin-Cell Battery

Follow the instructions in Before You Begin.
Remove the hinge cover (see Removing the Hinge Cover).
Remove the keyboard (see Removing the Keyboard).
Insert a plastic scribe into the guide on the side of the coin-cell battery compartment, and pry out the battery.

Replacing the Coin-Cell Battery

When you replace the battery, insert it at a 30-degree angle under the clip with the positive (identified by a plus [+] symbol) side up, and then push it into place.
Replace the keyboard (see Replacing the Keyboard).
Replace the hinge cover (see Replacing the Hinge Cover).

Buy replacement hinge assembly & replace. Quite a simple job & shouldn't take any more than 20 minutes to do.

Broken Dell Inspiron 1501 Hinge.......?????

Its the LCD backcover assembly that is cracked.

Here is the part number for it: UW737

I found one from somebodys Ebay store (not mine or anybody I know) for less then $30.00.

It sounds like your “Suspend Switch” is acting up. The Inspiron 1501 uses a mechanical switch to detect if the lid of the system is open or closed. A camber is built into the hinge of the system that activates the suspend switch plunger as the LCD is lowered to the closed position. If the switch is broken or nonfunctional, then it can be replaced separately. It is located under the hinge cover next to the right hinge on the system.
