During a normal shut down, the screen image on a LeapPad will reduce to a white dot, which will disappear in five to ten seconds.
In rare circumstances, the white dot will not disappear and the LeapPad will not fully power down. If the LeapPad does not complete the shutdown process and the white dot remains on the screen for more than ten seconds, complete the shut down by pressing and holding the power button on the LeapPad for ten seconds. This will fully power the LeapPad down, and it will start up normally next time you power it on. This site is worthless...more interested in tricking you with AD links than giving you an answer. Press Volume Down, Home and Right Directional...then power on. Connection screen will appear, connect it to your PC and select repair after tune up is done.
Then delete your profile on here and report the link you followed from google as worthless.
Sounds like a stuck pen button or the pen wire is pinched (look in the battery door at the pen wire).
Although it very well could be something (spilled) in the power button.
Don't take it apart too far.. once the membrane on the touch screen is disturbed or taken apart, it'll never work right again!
For a whole replacement leapPad, try a thrift store. I see them all the time, all models, under $20, sometimes under $5. (I have a 4 year old son and he destroys everything!)
