A Chilton or Haynes manual from the library would help you find, and replace any part on your truck including what tools you'll need. They're also available at most auto parts stores or they can special order them for your truck. They're a HUGE help in any repair you do to your vehicle showing you step-by-step how to do it.

SOURCE: 1992 Ford Ranger fuel filter replacement. Where is

Inside the frame rail on the driver's side. You'll need a 5/16" (8mm) socket if it is the type that is held in with a hose clamp, or a 10mm if it is the bracket type. Some of the lines are held in with white plastic clips, others by special springs. If it is the type without clips, you'll need a special tool to release them. Also, if it is the type without the plastic clips, make sure they gave you the right filter. If the new filter is shorter than the old DO NOT PUT IT ON. If you do, you will have to cut it off next time you have to change it as the tool will not fit in. The two filters look the same except the tubes are longer on the non-clip filter.

SOURCE: 2001 Ford Ranger cranks but doesn't start periodically

If it has a distributor it is possible that the reluctor / stator has a broken wire. preventing the computer from firing the engine. This can be intermitant and would require the removal of the distributor. If the engine has a crank shaft sensor then this may be a possible place for a broken wire or bad connection. Location for these can be on the harmonic damper at the from=nt of the engine or located at or near the flywheel......

What are the top most common causes for the injectors on a 2001 ford ranger to not fire/mis-fire

1. Fuel (ethanol) clogging
2. Sensor (crankshaft or camshaft) mis-communication...bad sensor or signal to computer
3. Electrical harness (age cracking, corrosion)
4. Fuel filter clogged, not sending proper fuel pressure
5. Fuel pressure too low (fuel pump)

Not necessarily in order...but start with fuel, move to electrical inspection, then sensor...unless you have a CEL code to start with first.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON a 2001 ford ranger. I have checked the obvious. should i check the fuel filter? (location of which is unknown to me)

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and can be reached by removing the back seat. And there you have a fuel filter attached to it. Another is located in the hood.

Be careful when you are disconnecting all connectors.

Good luck....

2001 ford ranger after it sits for a few hours it

No not the fuel pump. You most likely need to do a tune uo. New spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter. Deffinently change out the spark plugs. I would suggest using autocraft, autolite (fords brand} or some densos or ngk for better performance. Hope this solves your problem.

Is the fuel filter inside the tank on a 2001 ford ranger. my truck sometimes is cranking and i have to pump the padel to help it get started, i think it could be the fuel filter or the fuel pump. what do...

the fuel filter is on the inside of the frame rail on the drivers side (about the size of a coke can), u will need a special tool to release the fuel line clips, these are cheap and availiable at parts stores like NAPA and Carquest.
