SOURCE: takes a long time to heat water

If you are using a 3/8" copper line for your gas, get it replaced ASAP. It will fail. 1/2" Black Iron is required with natural gas. 50 gallons is a lot of water to heat. Look on the heater label for the recovery rate.

Water not heating

Hey James,,
There is a couple reasons... the heater controls have quit working, the upper and lower heating elements have gone bad,,, the water heater breaker has tripped,,, Most newer units have a electronic pad the gives you codes as to whats wrong...mine has little flashing lights..
.If you can't trouble shoot, you need to get a qualified electrician to look at it... ask one of your neighbors if they know how..
This is a little deeper.. http://www.ragsdaleair.com/blog/3-common-water-heater-problems-that-make-your-hot-water-not-hot-enough-4

Can I put my central heating on a different time from my water horstmann didam 425

It appears there are 4 trippers on the daily time dial that control all timing. 2 On and 2 OFF

On the right side are override switches for Hot water and Heating
You can only separate Hot water and Heater programming a little bit.
You can choose to have Hot water ON all day, or turn on-off once per day or turn on-off twice a day. Or OFF all day.
The Heater has the same options and the same on-off times as the Hot water.

Manual:
http://www.horstmann.co.uk/files/2513/9867/2118/user_guide_425-TiaraDiadem1.pdf

For fully separate programming, where Hot water and Heater can each be programmed differently, you would need a 2-channel controller like the Grasslin QE2

You would need to buy a propane hot water heater. Unfortunately you can not convert an electric hot water hearter to propane.

I didn't want to use either an electric or gas hot water heater so I invested in a solar hot water heater for my home. Best thing that I ever did as far as saving money. Once it is paid off then the benefits are lower utility bills.

Good luck,

Marty

I have an ariston 20/24 mffi combi pressure rises when switched to central heating but pressure ok when asking for hot water ? expansion vessel ?

over heat limit stat on central heating circuit ? if hot water is ok and hot to temp when run for 5 minutes the expansion vessel is doing its job.remember hot water is the maximum demand for any boiler ,,heating is secondry?once you establish hot water at maximum rate then the only real problem is on you demand for heating??

Water doesn't flow from the hot side. Was really cold last night. Is there a way to get it to flow?

Hi,
Yes... the water pipe is probably frozen... take a hair dryer and focus the heat on the piping...moving it back and forth along the piping to thaw it out...

1992 Reliance electric water heater model 501 has two 4500 watt heating elements , there is no hot water.

Check the breaker and top thermostat and make sure they are not tripped. Move onto replacing elements if above is not the problem.
Turn water and power off to heater and attach a water hose to bottom of heater to drain down tank. May have to open hot side on a facuet to get it to drain.
Once drained remove elements with 1 1/2" found at local hardware stores. once elements removed and new ones in place. Turn water on and get the air out of the system. Once water is flowing from the hot side from all of facuet's in house.
Once all air is out now yaou are resady to turn power onto heater.

Hot water problem

Someone has not sized the system correctly. The water heater will heat a certain GPM a certain temperature rise. Most of those "generalizations" from the manufacturers are referencing the lowest of all the flow requirements like 2 lavatories. The truth is, don't use other fixtures while showering or get a bigger system. Lots of information related to sizing the tankless system at http://www.mechanicalengineeronline.com/Mini_Sites/Tankless_Water_Heaters_Ebook/Tankless_Water_Heaters.htm Have a good one. PS:Properly sized On-Demand water heaters are actually really good. Be prepared for the day your water heater quits.
