I bought a Toshiba Satellite L755 last year and there were no drivers available to use my HP 3050 all in one scanner function. The HP still works fine to print and copy. I was told earlier today by a Staples support line person that I can get software to interface the scanner with the laptop to create a pdf which I can then send by email.

HP has great on line(download and lookup Q&A) support for free. Before going to too much trouble do this for me. See if the driver you installed,the disk,is for the version of windows that you presently are running. Sometimes disk installed drivers load ,even though it is for the wrong version of windows. Another possibility is that HP updated (Rewrote) the driver because it had a particular problem. You are hooked to the phone line , of course.

You say that the scanner glass is clean, but it takes next to nothing to cause these lines. Couldn't hurt to chack again (if you havent cleaned it 6 times already).....anyway, I found this document that is not specifically for your machine, but the menu commands should be the same:

these steps in the order presented to resolve the issue. It is not
necessary to continue to further steps once the issue is resolved.
Solution one: Make sure that the Digital Imaging Monitor is ready
The Digital Imaging Monitor must be running in order for the
Scan To
function to work. If it is running, the DIM icon (
) is present in the notification area. The notification area is located in the lower-right corner of the computer by the clock.

If the DIM icon is in the system tray, you do not need to complete this procedure. Skip to the next solution.
Follow these steps to set the computer to run the DIM.
Solution two: Populate the destination list
You must populate the destination list in HP Solution Center for the
Scan To
function to work. Follow these steps to populate the destination list.
NOTE:
HP
Solution Center is the software that came with the product. You must
make sure the software is installed on the computer for all the product
functions to work correctly. The software is also necessary for
completing this procedure. Install HP Solution Center if it is not
already installed.
Now you should be able to scan from the printer
NOTE:
It might take several minutes for the list to populate.
If
the appropriate programs are already listed as scan destinations,
discontinue this procedure. You must reinstall the software.

First* try from "my computer" ... near the bottom of the page you should see "scanners" in there, try clicking that and follow prompts
Second* go to start/ programs/ HP/ HP Solution Center
all scanning choices should be on the left
