If the door will not stay closed it is the spring inside door, or the small plastic piece that holds the spring which is attached to the $80.00 piece called outer door. ?To fix it, it is EASY and you do not have to even take the inside cover all the way off. Just remove the three sides of cover by gently slipping a plastic putty knife around rim to release the clips. Then attach the spring to the small hole below where the plastic piece used to be, which is located in the metal on the glass frame piece, use tweezers, hold the other end of spring as you place spring onto plastic door latch and set into place! ?Snap the inside cover back on and YAY! FINI!

Just did this and it's working so far. The hole is more like a slot - rectangular in shape and a bit hard to see. Once you find it and guide the curved end of the spring into it, it holds pretty well. Saved me a lot of headache and heartache. Wish they would have just made it the right way the first time.

Yes, The listed Latch Hook and Spring Tension solutions will work , when you patiently follow the directions given. Hooking the spring to one of the square shaped spaces between each metal tab (Located just inside the door) worked well for me. Thank You everyone for your welcome advice and suggestions. It save me the cost of ordering parts (A new Door or Hook Assembly) or having to buy a new ($170 - $200 Retail Cost) microwave.

SOURCE: i opened the door on my sharp microwave and now it

It may be the latch head spring or the door open lever or button.

DOOR SPRING LATCH HEAD HOOK

If you gently push up on the door latch heads (hook-like devices sticking out of the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off inside.

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see how it goes together.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

DOOR OPENING BUTTON LEVER

What usually breaks is the door open lever, but it may also be that the rear side of the door open button has worn down too far to work.

On a counter top model, the outer cover will need to be removed to diagnose and repair this. On an over-the-range model, only the control panel needs to be removed.

Please unplug the oven first.

Once it is apart, you'll be able to see how the door open button would press against the door open lever, which would then lift up against the door latch heads (hook-like projections on the door) and the door should open.

You can usually find exploded views and part numbers for Sharp models by entering your model number at the Sears parts site.

If not, let me know. We have many Sharp manuals and if we have yours, we can link you to it at no charge.

The best place to order Sharp parts is
Encompass (formerly Tritronics).

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number from the tag on the unit) for more information & help.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Sharp combo microwave: Turntable wont stop unless I leave the door ajar. Light stays on too while turntable is going. Everything else works fine - it just doesn't know when to shut up! :)

It's a door switch that's bad. Probably the secondary interlock switch. You need an ohm meter to verify switch not 'making' electrically. Usually the only thing that causes this switch to fail is from opening the door when the microwave is cooking, secondly, by cooking at very extended lengths of time.

My Sharp micro will stay on for 59 seconds and shut off no matter how long the timmer is set. Sharp model r 1870 It does this every time it is used . The control board has been replaced.

This is not a problem on the board, it is a problem in one of the damper-related components, either the switch or motor or the damper door may be binding.

The damper is a door inside that opens or closes depending on cooking mode. If the controller senses that the door is not in the right position, it will shut down the cook cycle.

Sharp models stop after 59 seconds.

See the attached sample drawing for a typical damper assembly.

We have the applicable service manuals for these models and have uploaded them to our site here and here.

If a switch is all you need, we offer a universal type for only $5 postpaid which you can order here.

Sharp microwave door will not shut and the oven light stays on continuously.

The door has a switch , probably two, that engage and disengage when opening or closing. ( a failsafe so it switches off ) when you open the door, this is the problem also like a fridge the light should go off when door is shut, it may just be stuck but Dont mess with it , clean it if its got food stuff , a mild detergent round door etc , otherwise just change microwave ,

Our door wont shut...

cheap and effective way to fix is to gently remove the plastic ring from the inner door with a butter knife or small blade screw diver and attch the door hook spring to the inside metal fins
