They don't make them like that any more!

The Service Manual lists it as a standard IDE drive. Your best bet is to take it to a local computer shop. They can remove the drive and add it to a test bench set up, then transfer all the data to a pen drive as the hard drive is only 2.1 Gb.

Or use the power supply from another old computer, as the connector plugs should be the same, 12 volt and 5 volt.

You need one of these PCMCIA network adapters. The one shown in the picture above requires an adapter cable (supplied when new) that connects the card to the ethernet cable. other later types of card have the socket on the card.

The Toshiba Satellite 5205 series of Notebook PC, and the S505 series model; uses an AC adapter (Charger) that produces 15 Volts DC.

You will see AC adapters sold that show 15 to 24 Volts. (DC)

This is because the AC adapter (Charger) has PFC.

Also I see it is just a two pin AC adapter plug, to laptop.
Center hole is Positive, outer metal cylindrical metal shell is Negative.

Go for 75 Watts or higher though, and not a 65 Watt model.

[ On the case of the AC adapter;
Input: 100 ~ 240 VAC 50-60Hz

Means it can use from 100 to 240 Volts AC, and either 50 or 60 Hertz.

Output: 15VDC 6A

Means 15 Volts DC at 6 Amp's. (Amperes)

Watch the outside dimension of the cylindrical part, and the center hole dimension. Outside cylinder may be correct, but center hole may be too small. Or vice-versa.

A questions are to be asked here. Does the laptop work when connected to AC power supply? If yes does the battery charge when connected to AC? If yes does this turning off happen when running on battery too? Please answer these questions so that I can help you with the diagnosis.

Almost all NEC litepad's have that problem, it's caused by AC current leaking fromt he adapter. Seacrch for LitePad Fix on google for a software solution. Also, preferably change your AC adapter to a OEM.

If the system will not run from the AC adapter, then it issue is normally limited to one of 2 possible failures.

1. The AC Adapter has failed.
2. The connection on the motherboard has failed.

If under warranty, contact NEC to get the adapter replaced or system repaired.

If the warranty has expired, then your best bet is to first try a new AC Adapter and see if the adapter has failed.

If that doesn't work or if the power connection on the motherboard is obviously broken/loose then a replacement motherboard is the most likely answer.

Motherboard is possibly bad. Try doing a Google search for NEC Versa LXi recharging board.

Check ebay should be cheap these days probably $100 for a good working one.
