Dc code appears only when clothes are in washer during spin cycle

My washer started having the dc code at the last 12 mins. I have moved the load around. I have removed the clothes and continued the spin cycle. The water leaves the washer. I put the clothes back in the washer and select the spin cycle and it won't move past 11 mins. I have even run a quick wash with no clothes in the washer to see if the problem would occur then too. The quick wash completes itself with NO problem. I tried a light load of underwear and the problem occured. What do you suggest?

I saw this on another response of yours - this is exactly what has happened to our washer:

"With the top raised start a Spin Only cycle with no clothes in the wash basket. The wash basket should rotate CCW in Spin Cycle. The tumblers (spinners) should not rotate. If the wash basket is not rotating CCW in spin only cycle and the tumblers are rotating then yes the clutch has failed. Can you let me know the results of this test and we can go from there? Thank you, Rich."

So - can this be fixed with prevailing WD40 trick, or, do I need to purchase a new clutch / pulley assembly? Thanks, Chris

Oh sorry - I did remove the front panel - and the motor is turning CCW; the belt is turning; and the pulley is turning.

If it’s an FAV6800A I think you may have a clutch malfunction with your machine. To verify if the clutch has malfunctioned we need to perform a quick check. Please visit this link and review my post of Solution #1 posted on Jan 30, 2009. Steps 1 & 2 should get you started and give us some troubleshooting direction. Please post back with your results or if you have any questions.

Hello Chris, Are your tumblers rotating in spin cycle, I did not know to check for this back in mid Dec. with my failure.

You need to drop the clutch out and inspect, if the clutch spring is not broken and the roller bearings are not rusted and can be cleaned up then yes. Please read through this post where I just helped a forum member last night. I tend to give detailed response’s under dh1200s.

    http://applianceguru.com/forum2/19412.ht...

I think you saw the post of two other folks on this forum from your reference comment. They tried this maintenance procedure and had success. No real cost if it’s just a WD-40 clean up and re-lube. We did not have a hard failure of the clutch. If you are handy give it a try, follow the steps I outline on the above post along with the SM which you can reference from this site under Tips and Tricks. Good luck and post back if you have questions.

    Chris,

Sorry I should have read your post more closely, well my post to another forum member. So in Spin Only cycle the wash basket is not rotating CCW but the tumblers are rotating in the wash basket with the motor is turning CCW turning the clutch pulley CCW? If this is the condition then no I feel the clutch has hard failed and WD-40 clean/re-lube will not get you going. You will need to drop the clutch out and inspect and possibly replace. Please let me know what you find.

I no longer post on this site no way to post a Sticky.

If you want to DIY the repair Google this phrase ""Sticky: Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW""" Read the post Part 1; DC or UC unbalance error codes in Spin Cycle what is causing this issue? Part 2 for the fix action.

Post your issue in the repair forum not in the Sticky. Please include your Model Number i.e. FAV6800A or FAV9800A and I will help you.

Washer has stopped at 26 min with water in the drum. Will not spin or drain. Just sounds like it starts running then stops and repeats.

Good deal your machine is a Series 11.

“”Washer has stopped at 26 min with water in the drum. Will not spin or drain. Just sounds like it starts running then stops and repeats.””

I believe this is the start of a Spin Cycle of that Wash Cycle which Wash Cycle did you have selected?

Are there any error codes to the LED display like dC or uC?

If you stop that wash cycle with the wet load and do a Spin Only cycle will it complete with no error code?

Does the wash tub bang around in Spin Only cycle with the wet clothes load?

Standing by for some feedback and I will try to help.

Here is the Service Manual and parts look up. Can you let me know if you want to try to DIY the fix?

Maytag Neptune TL clothes still dripping wet after full cycle

Pump out time of 40 seconds sounds good.

No ND error code and you spin up to 850RPM which is max for the machine.

You have no standing water in the wash basket.... I'm scratching my head.

Could you do a Spin Only cycle with that same wet wash load and set the SPIN for Max Extract. After you start the Spin Only cycle put the machine in Service Mode and watch the RPM range. This cycle sets the display to 12 minutes. Let’s see if the wash load remains wet and what max RPM is reached.

""Maybe the pump is not turning on during the spin cycle?"" You have no standing water in the wash basket correct? I feel the pump is turning on or you would have standing water in the wash basket and the pressure switch would have never indicated an empty condition (Low Level pressure switch contacts) to the Control Board. The Control Board would have stopped the wash cycle with a ND for no drain error code.

The pump in the spin cycle will turn on a number of times see if you hear turn on in a Spin Only cycle

I just ran a Spin Only light wash load with about 5 gallons of water in the wash basket. Timer went to 12 min. I toggled into Service Mode to watch wash basket RPM. At about the 5 Min mark (toggle in and out of Service Mode) the wash basket reached 850RPM then a few minutes later it stepped down to 830RPM to end of Spin Only Cycle. You don’t have a water valve stuck open or you would flood/over flow of the machine. Did you here the drain pump turn on several times during the Spin Only cycle?

Getting dc error code in rinse cycle, 13 min. before being done Have un-pluged and still getting code. Maytag FAV6800 LED washer, 5 years old.

Hello rdberg,

See this post Clutch Fix it has helped a few owners with the dC and uC unbalance errors with the FAV6800A and FAV9800A machines. You have a very common problem with a Clutch malfunction. The first part of the post has to do with the nuts and bolts of disassembly and Clutch maintenance or replacement of the Clutch Pulley.

In the last part of the post I go into just how to check the One-Way Rollers clutches to verify that are locking up. If they don’t this results in tumbler movement on Wash Basket spin up and the unbalance errors. If you are handy and have some basic hand tools you can get your machine back in service at low cost.

Post back if you have questions…..Rich

Washer does not finish cycle..it stops at spin and it displays a 'dc' code...what is this

The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.
dC code from the Service Manual = Distribute Clothes: The load is unbalanced, preventing high speed spin. Redistribute clothes.
Your wash tub is banging around during the spin cycle correct?
You can redistribute the wash basket load until the cows come home the issue will only continue to get worse. Maybe start throwing uC error codes to the console display for continuous unbalance error code.
Your FAV6800A or FAV9800A has a Clutch malfunction. It can be corrected if you are handy see this DIY fix Clutch Fix. post.

Codes and holes

Hi mandystreet,
I’m an owner like you; from what you describe I feel you have a clutch issue if you’re machine is a FAV6800AW or FAV9800AW. I'll bet it completes the spin cycle with no clothes in the wash basket. Here is what is happening
See this post for a step by step process to remove the clutch. Try a maintenance clean up of the One-way Roller Clutch bearing and see if that will get you back in service, if not I would do a Clutch replacement.
Your machine is shutting down the spin cycle with dc and UC errors so your Tub Displacement Sensor is working as designed.
From the Service Manual page 12;
During fill cycle – If machine tumbles and spins simultaneously replace clutch assembly.
During spin cycle – If machine tumbles and spins simultaneously replace clutch assembly.
You can check this out by turning off the water supply lines if you check during water fill cycle. Lift the washer top from the base and observe the action during water fill or spin cycle. The Service Manual will show you how to raise the washer top from the base.
This is happening because the clutch One-way Roller Bearings are sticky, slightly rusted. When the machine enters spin cycle the agitator shaft is slightly engaged because the one-way roller clutches are dragging this will cause the agitator shaft to rotate in spin cycle spinning the tumblers slightly. In this condition the wash load is tossed about while the wash basket begins to spin up. This will cause the Tub to become unbalanced and the tub starts making greater swings.
This continues until the TDS (Tub Displacement Sensor) signals an unbalance condition to the Control Board and shuts the cycle down with a dc or UC unbalance errors. If the TDS fails in this mode the machine would likely walk across the floor until it unplugged itself or ended in a self-destruct.… :)
A WD-40 clean up and re-lube may get you back in service. Just follow this posting step by step. If you are not a DIY type direct your service repair to this e-mail to help speed you to repair and control cost. You can redistribute the wash load until the cows come home and you will continue to fail with UC or dc unbalance errors…. Fix the clutch issue and your machine will be happy and so will the owner.

Neptune XL

I just did a repair on my FAV6800AAW by lubricating the needle bearings in the clutch pulley hub, the tub displacement sensor checked OK per the service manual check. I was getting dc/uc errors in the spin cycle, washer was purchased in 7/05. I have basic mechanical skills and used a socket wrench to remove clutch pulley hub, just follow the service manual removal steps to remove clutch pulley hub. Pull the plastic cover off the clutch pulley hub and inspect the spring, clean/lube needle bearings and the clutch hub coupler that drives spinner shaft. I used WD40 I may need to re-lube down the road with a good light grease. It took a few tries for me to get the clutch pulley hub to stay on after re-install and power up, getting the clutch pulley seated properly is the trick. I did not remove the washer tub for this fix, I believe I saw a posting where someone did. I just leaned the washer back to get a better reach angle, it is a tight work area. I did not want to junk 3.5 yr old $1k machine with out trying a fix. If you want to work on this model get the service manual, I found it online and I believe you can order it in PDF format from Maytag. Good luck!
I just went thru my 10th load of a mix of light, medium and heavy loads and all work fine no unbalance errors (DC/UC). Doesn’t fix the tangle problem :) Prior to this fix I could only run the washer with no clothes in it to complete a cycle with no dc/uc error codes.
