I recently got a new Asus DVD drive (CB-5126A) to add to my desktop, I already have another Asus DVD drive installed but the new one doesn't seem to be recognized. Each drive has power and can open and shut but only the original drive is working. I found that when I unplug the original dvd drive and only have the new drive plugged in it works just fine... but i can't get BOTH of them to work... please help!

Good day sir, Try to clean it with a CD lens cleaner if problem persist.I recommend replacing your optical disk drive or use it as a slave for reading CD's so that your new ODD will last long. in my opinion most DVDRAM, player etc. can read most formats except Bluray disc. using the device from reading CD,VCD and DVD lessen's the device life span.
sometimes if we rarely use the ODD its already not working.
Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
Upper Filters
Lower Filters
Upper Filters.bak
Lower Filters.bak
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps
