After it boots up and goes to the desktop the screen cuts off. the power button is still lit up but the screen is blank.

During boot up press function key F8 repeatedly until the windows boot menu appears. Select boot in safe mode. If this works make sure the correct video card is selected for the laptop. Go to your control panel click on system then select the hardware tab and click on the device manager. Select display adaptor and click on the plus symbol to expand the selection. Double click on the display adaptor and select the driver tab. Click roll back driver or uninstall the driver. Reboot your system normally. When windows prompts you to install the newly found device follow the instructions to install the graphics card driver.
If this does not work connect the laptop to an external monitor to see if you can see the video on the external monitor to find out if the graphics card is working.

Hi from london, have new acer aspire 1 zg5 new keeps shutting down after boot can u hlp pls?

Try booting the system to Safe mode.

To boot to safe mode:
Restart the computer. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, keep tapping on F8 key on your keyboard. When the Windows Options menu appears select the "Safe mode" then press Enter.

Once you managed to boot to Safe mode, change the computer startup and recovery settings by right-clicking "My Computer" then select Properties. Select Advanced tab. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings. Uncheck the box for "Automatically restart" under System Failure.

Reboot again normally, see if it will reboot again by itself. If you managed to make the system boot normally, proceed to Events Viewer to find out what is the caused.

If the system failed to boot normally after doing the above, you might want to boot the system to "Last known good configuration"
