Loud screeching/often off balance

This washer works okay fine if it is full and perfectly balanced. The only problem then is that it makes a lout screeching sound when in spin cycle. If you try to wash one sock alone it will get off-balance and make a thudding sound. I think the drum is actually hitting the front of the washer. It is very loose when you open it up and you can make it hit the front of the washer manually -- should you be able to do this?

How can I fix it?

Hi lauriebethdi, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? The tub is usually centered by springs at the top. Remove the top and check for broken springs.

SOURCE: Out of balance top load washer

This was my fix, my machine that would error out with DC/UC codes.

I just did a repair on my FAV6800AAW by lubricating the needle bearings in the clutch pulley hub, the tub displacement sensor checked OK per the service manual check. I was getting dc/uc errors in the spin cycle, washer was purchased in 7/05. I have basic mechanical skills and used a socket wrench to remove clutch pulley, just follow the service manual removal steps to remove the clutch pulley. Pull the plastic cover off the clutch pulley and inspect the spring, clean/lube needle bearings and the clutch hub coupler that drives spinner shaft. I used WD40 I may need to re-lube down the road with a good light grease. It took a few tries for me to get the clutch pulley to stay on after re-install and power up, getting the clutch pulley seated properly is the trick. I did not remove the washer tub for this fix, I believe I saw a posting where someone did. I just leaned the washer back to get a better reach angle, it is a tight work area. I did not want to junk 4 yr old $1k machine with out trying a fix. If you want to work on this model get the service manual, good luck!

SOURCE: Maytag Performa Washer spins out of balance

There was a recall on the washer base, which caused the unbalanced problem. Find Technical Buletin TDL-0050B-B issued by Matag.

My washer is out of balance when spinning.

Hi,
Your problem is probably much more than the washer being out of balance. The front load washers have shock absorbers that hold them from moving all over the place. These have a habit of breaking. Then the drum hammers and sounds like things are flying apart. Pull the bottom front off and check the shocks. Typically the rings where the pins go throuhg are where they will break. Sometimes at first they look okay and you have to grab them and move them to see that they are broken.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

Our clothes washer has a bad screeching sound & loud spin cycle

screeching sound generally form a bad pump, which if didnt pump out correct amoun tof water would probalby send off balance more. unplug unit, ddrain out asmuch wateras possible and tip unit back, you will see the pump in the front right corner, there is a small plastic reles tab, after releasing it the pump simply twists out counter clockwise, perhaps ther is something in the pump/sump. you will see tis when oyou remove the pump, simply reinstalls the same way

Hotpoint Aquarius WF250 Loud banging when spinning

The hardest amount to balance is a load with just one item.Because you have nothing to counter balance the other side. So,first off,put in a normal load ,make sure your washer is level by using a level to assure it is, other wise if its not all the clothes will group in one spot where its not level ,than when time to spin you have a un balanced load.
