NO. IF IT IS TOO TALL IT WILL CAUSE A PROBLEM. GO TO THE LOCAL SEWING MACHINE SALES AND ASK IF THEY HAVE THE RIGHT ONE. ALSO, YOU CAN TAKE OUT THE BOBBIN CASE (HOLDS THE BOBBIN) AND TAKE IT WITH YOU. MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T EXCEED THE HEIGHT OF THE CASE AND IT SHOULD SPIN FREELY.

Just measure the existing belt and go from there. Besides the supernova and supernova ultra are likely to use the same belt.

Try the Necchi Yahoo Group. There are members who often sell parts and they also are very knowledgeable and helpful.. You should also try eBay. They have parts for lots of vintage machines. You may not find what you are looking for right away but look often as things show up everyday.

You can also use a Eureka vacuum cleaner belt, can't remember the exact model, but the package says it's for most sewing machines. It's not the V belt, but it works on my Super Nova and it's 1.79 for two!

Contact Necchi directly (800-525-9987) and speak with the Service manager who may be able to get the part for you if they are available anywhere.

As far as using WD-40 please don't use that. It is not for oiling. The WD stands for Water Displacement. It was designed for automotive electrical, etc. It is also a good penetrant for loosening nuts and bolts or stuck parts.
You need to use regular real sewing machine oil (white oil) that can be found most any store or another great product is called Tri-Flow from hardware stores that has Teflon in it. WD-40 is not oil.
