SOURCE: Can't Get My GE Profile XL44 Self-Cleaning Gas Range to CLEAN ! ! ! ! !

I also have a XL44 (GE JGBP90) and I can't figure out how to latch the door. When I press Self Clean, the display asks me to latch the door, but I don't see a lever. I think it might involve lifting the range, but I don't want to force it. Any ideas?

SOURCE: Viking range self cleaning not working - door locked

This is a more common problem than revealed by Viking.
Heres how I an "amature" fixed it.
Top center of many viking ovens have slots. With a small flashlight look into the center slots. "Its HARD to see" Look for something
shiney thats the latch/hook everything else will be dark.
I used a shish ka bab skwer. You need something like that or maybe an ice pick. Knives screwdrivers and things like that will
damage the face of the oven and then after opeining it you will forever feel bad about marring that very expensive unit.
Take the pick and with the flashlight guide it to the shiney part.
Once touching push to the LEFT. Keep trying as the pick will slip
many times. The latch should have no resistance if you can get on it.
Once open you can try and reset the hook to its open position.
Mine would not reset and prevented the door from closing.
This is now another fix. To keep the hook held to the open position. E mail me for how I jury rigged this part.
[email protected]
I have the hook held open now and will never be able to use the self clean function again. But thats better for me than a open wallet fix for the repair man and then wonder when it will happen again. To repeat. This is a known problem with Viking ovens.

Hi there,
Most likely the door for your kitchen range has a sensor that is not allowing it to heat up because it detects that the door is not closed.
I would suggest you consult help from a certified technician by the manufacturer of your Kitchen range that way they would also be able to check other possible faults on your kitchen range and replacement parts would be 100% compatible.

I attempted to hit the self clean button but received a F9 beeping flashing error until I unplugged the range from electricity. How do I stop this F9 error?

Hello & Welcome to FixYa
Error F9 means Latch unlock lower and is displayed due to obstruction in door lock mechanism. If after cleaning the door lock mechanism the problem is still there then replacing the door lock mechanism is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Door will not unlock after self clean.

It's probably the timer motor which is stuck. unplug the range!! I recently had the same problem with my whirlpool (hereinafter known as **** inc.) range. Self cleaned the oven and then the door wouldn't open. Googled up similar problems and generally found out that ****inc. had this problem on both gas and electric ranges and it costs an arm and a leg for a new board plus labor. Found out how to manually open door with coat hanger but of course still had problem with same error messages; also the oven, clock, etc wouldn't function. Took the cover off the back of the stove. UNPLUG THE STOVE On the left rear facing the back of the range he found the timer motor had stopped. He unplugged input(230 volt power) leading to the stove, then unplugged and insulated the wiring to the timer motor and the microswitch on top of it ( 4 wires). Then he took the long steel wire off of it and unlatched the oven door. Told me that this probably had something to do with the timer motor on the self cleaning cycle and that it was stuck Said this whole thing could probably be fixed with a bit of WD40. Said probably nothing wrong with board but it sure must be a moneymaker for **** inc. The service techs probably clean the timer motor, say they changed the $300 board, and go on their way. Plugged stove back up and voila! Everything worked except self cleaning function. Hope this helps someone. caution!!!! Do NOT use the self cleaning function unless you fix the timer motor. Replace it or clean it.

How do you clean self-cleaning Maytag Gemini?

If the unit is a self-cleaner, you should remove everything from the oven (including the racks as the self-clean mode will remove necessary lubrication from the racks if left inside). If the range has a slide lock on top of the oven door, move it from left to right to lock the door, then press the self-clean button. If it does not have a slide lock, it should have a magnetic lock which will engage when the self-clean function is activated. The oven will reach approx. 800 degrees for about 3 hours. When it cools, you should see a white powdery substance in the oven. Wipe this up and you are done.
