SCREEN BLACK ON ONE SIDE

Sorry long delay on seeing this - I forgot I had a Fixya account! Unfortunately this is the symptom of a dead or dying Inverter - LCD screens have two sets of Inverters - left and right. Both are high voltage (i.e. usually far higher than the input voltage) and are used to turn on the back-lighting in LCD displays. the lights themselves are much light Fluorescant tubes - which is why a White screen is so White. What you are experiencing is that the Right side inverter is pretty much end of life - it could be a general fault with the unit in manufacture or just a fault that has developed. It could also be the mainboard itself not supplying the correct signal to the inverter circuitry to turn it on. It could indeed also be the backlight itself.

IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........

ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER

Lcd tv turns on and flashes and turns off but you can still see the picture like there are no lights on

Hi
This will be your main inverter board, this or these are situated to the left or right hand side of your TV with the back of.
Firstly make sure you have 24v going to the inverter from the lead that goes to it. if so then your inverter board will need to be changed, as i said these are on the left or right hand side of the TV usually under a steal plate and connect to the screen via plugs.
once you have located it look on the board for the part number and google or try these guys for a replacement LCD replacement Inverters
