SOURCE: the drain/spin cycle always adds water

It's normal if it just adds a little bit of water. It does this so your drain pump impeller doesn't run dry which could damage it. If it's filling right up, there could be a malfunction with the control board, the pressure switch or the inlet valve .

You could try shutting off the water supply at the taps before you start the drain/spin cycle.
Good luck!

Can I sew fine knits with my Bernina 830? What would I dial the machine to in order to avoid puckering?

Warning--leaving the presser foot up while sewing will not work because raising the presser foot releases the tension!!! You'll likely end up with a huge knot of thread to remove and possibly damaged fabric.

Fine fabrics present some issues for most machines but there are several things you can do to alleviate or even eliminate issues.

Be sure to use lightweight needles for knits (ball point). Use a good quality fine thread. Loosening the tension will help alleviate some of the puckering. In addition, using a wash-away stabilizer to add body to the fabric will help with puckering. (Even using paper under the fabric will be enough to remove puckering--however, it tends to dull the needle faster than usual--but a new needle is an inexpensive solution to an age-old problem. Also, using a roller foot, teflon foot, or walking foot may be beneficial in feeding the fabric. Some people will starch the fabric to add body.

I just bought a rice cooker at a garage sale. It had no instruction manual

To make rice, remove the trivet if you have one as this is only for steaming food.

Wash rice to get rid of excess starch and put in pan. Then add the same amount of water as rice (2 cups water to 2 cups rice etc.) then shut lid and switch on and leave it.
Once it has switched off do not open the lid for a further 20 minutes (the machine will keep the rice warm do not worry) Stir rice and serve. Most rice cookers will keep the rice warm for a couple of hours.

If you find the rice is a bit dry then add a little bit more water, the amount of water really depends on the quality of rice used.

Unable to find an english operating manual for a miele w822 washing m/c

Hi Dear. I assume this machine made for Nederlands - Dutch market. You can not obtain English manual for it. You may contact your local Miele center. They may able to supply you translated copy of user manual. Thanks.

Note: What I can understand from control panel, buttons from left to right : Door Button - On/Off - Pre -wash - Water Plus (adds more water)- Gentle wash and Short wash then Final spin speed selector.
Right hand side Program & wash temperature selector (Clock wise): Cottons - Minimum Iron - Delicate - Wool - Starch - Spin only - Pump only & Mini Program (Quick Wash)

Spining and fluff problem

You have a bad brake assembly. Sometimes you can turn washer upside down and access the white pad and sand it and the metal stator. Then dump corn starch in there to help release.
